Hi There Friend! I in no way felt as though you were saying that you did not believe me. I have decided to let getting the army to investigate this matter go. For now, I intend to continue to go on with my investigation until I can resolve this one way or another. At that time if you are still living I will contact you again. :} [It will probably take me that long.]

Thank you for your effort in answering my messages!

Thanks Again,

Ann

Bruce, I would be glad to send you one of her dog tags with the money to send it back. Would that be getting closer to getting solid proof for you?

Thanks,

Ann

Hi Bruce, Thank you so much for responding to me so quickly. Because my uncle, Major Marcus Lee Sullivan traveled so much I has never able to find a license for his second wife, first name Caroline. I have their divorce date and some court records. I will have to look for them. I am remodeling my house and what a mess. I also believe that I have information from the army where he was paying child support for their two children: Mark Andrew Sullivan born ca 1953-1955 at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, and Donna Lee Sullivan born ca 1955-1958 also in Fort Sill. Of course this is never easy so I know that Carolyn remarried after their divorce and after Uncle Marcus died their stepfather adopted them. I have been unable to find their birth records in Oklahoma. Since I do not have the exact birthdates and do not know if the kid's name was changed on their birth certificates, no luck. I have made several trips to Oklahoma with no luck. They will not let you look at the records. You give them the information and they will look! So you can see the problem, no birthdates, no names, no luck! I am planning to be in Oklahoma in the Spring. I am going to visit with the base commander at Fort Sill and see if he can be of any help.

Vernelle lived in Lawton after their divorce. I believe it was around 1952 and they had just returned from 2 yrs in Japan. Sometime around 1960 she remarried. I am in touch with his daughter and will find out if she remembers his name and any other information she might have. Vernelle was 97 when she died!

Now as to Dorothy. I do not know where they were married or if they were married. I know he introduced her to us as his wife. She traveled to Spain with him as his wife and lived on base with him as his wife. As I said I have two of her snipped dog tags. The name is indicated as Dorothy Sullivan, DOB as 12 May 1923, Protestant, and US National. She came to see my mother and me sometime around 1972. At that time she had brought us all his medals, etc which I still have. Her dog tags were in a box with his ribbons and braids.

Do you have any idea what proof is needed for a wife to be buried next to her husband in a veterans cemetery? Since William W. Sullivan did not die until a year after her I would think he would have known she was being buried there!

I have been wrestling with this for a long time. So I can wait for a while longer. When I get to Oklahoma in the spring maybe I fill find something.

It just seems strange to me that they both have the same names, same birthdates and were both married to military men named Sullivan.

I hope this all makes sense.

Thanks again and I'll get as much proof as I can about his and Vernelle's divorce. Would a notorized statement from his daughter help?

Thank You.

Ann

Removing memorial from Find a Grave
Bruce,
I agree with you for not removing your Find a Grave memorials as one relative insisted you do. Cemeteries are public. The inclusion of Find a Grave memorials are only an enhanced version of this public information. I think some of the people who complain about the "exploiting" of their loved one's final resting place are wrong. I myself have been told not to post a memorial of a deceased classmate because it wasn't "respectful." I didn't remove it. To me it is a matter of respect to post this information for those members our our class who do not live nearby.
Have a great day!

RE: Josiah Reed
Thank you for the information as I had no idea of the policy regarding unknown burial location. Someone sent me an e-mail telling that was the way to do unknown burials. I have found that sometimes after showing an unknown site, I will hear from someone the location of the cemetery.

Would it be possible to write in the obit for Samuel D. Reed who his parents are? This would be helpful even without linking to them.
