RE: Matthew Dunn
You;re so very welcome. I am not a family member. I am just in the area and was able to get the photo for you. :)

RE: origin of photos
I'm just trying to determine if you got the random pictures off Ancestry.com or if you know the individual. If you know the individual or the family, I was interested in seeing if you can fill in some blanks.

origin of photos
greetings -

I'm interested in the origins of 2 of the photos on the Find-a-grave website for Sylvan Lester Powell. One is a group family photo and the other is the person in his army attire. Can you help with this?
I'm a new member to Find-a-grave - Is most of the info put up by volunteers that get the photos and info from Ancestry.com?

Thanks,
Barbara

Gemberling update
Hi Mary Jane - hope you're doing well.
I've been working on the Gemberling family lately, and just added a memorial for William B. Gemberling at the Union cemetery in Selinsgrove. When I went to add links, I see you have a memorial built without a cemetery. I can confirm he's buried here from my own transcription of the cemetery. If you'd like to move him, I'll delete mine. Your memorial is #153966429.
Thanks!
Steve

After re-reading pages 177-184 of Ianne Smyer's biography of Johannes Schmierer, in which she also discusses the Pennsylvania families, there just isn't any hard evidence that's been found to link him to JJS.

I'm not saying there definitely is not a relationship, but that no hard evidence has been found to support the belief and there is hard evidence to believe otherwise. For example, we know, thanks to Ianne, that by comparing his signature throughout his life that Johannes Schmierer immigrated to the U.S. in 1755 on the ship Neptune.

Ianne is a retired (?) lawyer who did a splendid job of research. Many documents are shown in her book. I believe the book is available at the Catawba County Historical Association, although perhaps no longer for sale? At one time it could be ordered through amazon, but that was quite a few years ago.

"John Smyer: Plain Deutsch Pioneer" by Ianne Smyer, Catawba County Historical Association Press, 15 College Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. (c) 2002. ISBN 0-9702776-1-X.

Happy hunting, Merry Christmas and thanks again!

Bill

Thanks. The two symbols to insert are @ after roots and a period (.) after blueridgehost.

I don't list my email explicitly on Find A Grave because I think bots harvest emails here for spam. So it's in this form:

xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxx.net

Once we can swap emails, I have some immigration records to share with you that show why I suspect that Maria Barbel Doll was JJ's mother, not his wife!
