RE: 38854788 Schmeyer
After re-reading pages 177-184 of Ianne Smyer's biography of Johannes Schmierer, in which she also discusses the Pennsylvania families, there just isn't any hard evidence that's been found to link him to JJS.

I'm not saying there definitely is not a relationship, but that no hard evidence has been found to support the belief and there is hard evidence to believe otherwise. For example, we know, thanks to Ianne, that by comparing his signature throughout his life that Johannes Schmierer immigrated to the U.S. in 1755 on the ship Neptune.

Ianne is a retired (?) lawyer who did a splendid job of research. Many documents are shown in her book. I believe the book is available at the Catawba County Historical Association, although perhaps no longer for sale? At one time it could be ordered through amazon, but that was quite a few years ago.

"John Smyer: Plain Deutsch Pioneer" by Ianne Smyer, Catawba County Historical Association Press, 15 College Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. (c) 2002. ISBN 0-9702776-1-X.

Happy hunting, Merry Christmas and thanks again!

Thanks. The two symbols to insert are @ after roots and a period (.) after blueridgehost.

I don't list my email explicitly on Find A Grave because I think bots harvest emails here for spam. So it's in this form:

Once we can swap emails, I have some immigration records to share with you that show why I suspect that Maria Barbel Doll was JJ's mother, not his wife!

Hi Mary Jane,
My line descends from Ann Cheesman and Richard Powell III. Ann's great grandfather, Richard Cheesman married Hannah Stringman. Richard Cheesman is my 7th great grandfather. My line is the Cheesman line. Thanks, Judi Schoonover

RE: 38854788
Hey, I'm finally free to spend some time on this. I've been eager to get started. :-)

One question before I dive in fully. What is your source(s) for the birth, death and bio info you used to create the Find A Grave memorial for Johann Jacob Schmeyer (JJS)? I see it cited in several family trees on, but when I check the sources in each tree I see only other family trees. Of course I'm just getting started!

My plan is to learn all I can about JJS based on sources other than other's family trees. Hard sources, in other words.

May we continue by email for some privacy in case we need it? If you agree, my email address is:

with the appropriate symbols inserted.

Thanks, Bill

RE: 38854788
What an interesting question. In a few days I'll dig deeper into this and get back to you with an opinion, if nothing more.

Wrapped up in church Christmas cantata & other business right now. :-)

Thanks for the message,

RE: Charles N Gemberling - Union cemetery
Haha - keep them coming! Most of my memorials were done prior to the linking capability being availalbe - and I think its going to be a part time job to update everything. I'm in almost every day.

Hi Mary Jane - I think I managed to muff this up a little bit. I was adding/updating prior to seeing your update requests - and somehow, spouses were added twice (never did that before - didn't think it would let you!) and without thinking I deleted the original memorial, assuming it was a dupe. But it wasn't - so I've rebuilt it - but lost the picture. I'll put it on my list of things to do the next time out that way.

Hi Mary Jane, You're quite welcome. When I get a chance I'll go over my records and see if any one else is in the same lot. If So I'll transfer them also. Best - rob
