Bio Photo William: I've been doing Family Genealogy since December of 2003.
Came to "Find A Grave" in August of 2010. I think this is a great Web Site. Wonderful way to remember those who have left us and find others we didn't know that existed.
More than happy to take Photographs in my area.
Researching Surnames: Bird, Gassaway, Gottberg, Hubbard, Melcher, Richardson, Wilson, and Zessin.
Can't get any greener than a train!
Always goes by train!

RE: Henry Gassaway.....
William - I intended no ill will feelings. Thank you providing proofs supporting the memorial you created for Henry Gassaway. In genealogical research, one must obtain the original source, using books as clues. I look forward to your original records.

You don't need the following:

- 1850 Pickens District SC census: Henry Gassaway's wife, Rachel is presumed to be widowed, with their younger children Henry & Minerva residing in the same household; Henry is no where to be found.

- 1850 Pickens District Agriculture census: Rachel is listed as the head of household, with no Henry to be found.

- 1860 Pickens District census: Rachel is in the Long Creek Post Office, household 969/968.

In the newspaper announcements and court records in 1857-1858, the Rachel listed is Henry Gassaway's wife, not a daughter.

The LOC "Chronicling America" project includes the Keowee Courier newspaper which shows additional information.

I suspect that the John, James & William Gassaway mentioned in the 1857-1858 records were Henry's brothers, not sons, perhaps offering an explanation as to how the Zimmerman's felt Henry was the son of James & Rachel in The Gassaway Book.

The book indicates Henry is the son of James, but provide no proof of this conclusion. James Gassaway's will lists his children, but no Henry [alive at the time of writing & probate.]

Thank you in advance for providing proof linking Henry Gassaway to James & Rachel Gassaway + Henry's death date/place.

RE: Hartley Photograph
I sent a correction in on the dates and they have been done. Your pictures now are spot on. The Jr was removed also. I think his son is also here but I'm not sure enough to connect them.

Thanks for your time.

Harold Viron Hartley, Jr
The pictures that you took for this person should be for his father, Harold Viron Hartley, Sr.

Henry Gassaway
You created a burial #85962457 for Henry Gassaway, then state that his exact burial location and date of his death is unknown. It's appropriate to make an entry when you have the supporting facts, as is a repository for transcriptions of tombstones.

You linked this Henry Gassaway as a son of James & Rachel Gassaway. Because Henry is not listed in James Gassaway's will, yet all other children are, and Henry Gassaway was alive at the time of writing and probate of James will, your relationship assumption presents a conflict.

Please provide your sources in order to prove your entry.

Thank you - Debbie Spencer
