Valerie has been doing genealogy as long as I can remember, but she went "obsessive" with it after our son's birth in 1996. |
It's tough living in Southern California with Valerie's roots in the midwest back to Pennsylvania & Virginia and Bob's in Alabama and Georgia.
We made some wonderful friends and found lots of cousins. We try to post what we find so that others will not have to beat their heads against all of the "brick walls" we have. We want to make our ancestors more than just dates and a stone in the ground.
FindAGrave is the best Family Tree we have found.
Just let us know if you would like us to make a correction or add a link to a memorial we have created.
We are also willing to do transfers if you can show a close link. We do not completely adher to the F/G protocals for transfers.

You are quite welcome! I hope you are able to see your family's memorial tombstone someday also. Riverside Cemetery is quite a place.

I am related to Amanda (Baker) Lochbaum. Her Brother Samuel Etter Baker is my great-great-great grandfather. I found the Lochbaum name in Amanda's mother's will (see record on FindAGrave). I will try to find an obit for Levi. I had obits for Margaret Mahon and Anna "Annie" Reed...I just added them tonight. Further on down the Reed line is Sam Reed- born in 1917 in my house- another reason for my Reed/Lochbaum interest.

No, I am not related in any way to the Nixon Brothers...I have always just had such respect for any man or woman who chose to put on a uniform for our country, and this site is really an opportunity to keep some of those names and stories - I wish that it could be every single individual on here! - 'up and out' where people can read about them. While my own kin seems to have especially been right in the middle of it all, as I say, for WWII, I have traced my own family members in every war, and I know that I am so touched when I see folks visiting my people. =) I hope that the sponsoring will bring extra visitors to the Nixon Boys, as well as their family members...it is more than an honor to sponsor these gentlemen. I hope we talk again - Have a good night! Best, Rhonda and Gannon Blue

Dear Valerie, No I am not related to Daniel Lochbaum, whose mortal remains were laid in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Since 1985, I have been tracking down and writing about the Civil War veterans from Peoria County. I wrote a column in two local newspapers over the years and had accumulated thousands of pages of information about these thousands of veterans who came through Peoria on the way to the war. I found out about Find A Grave just over three years and almost every day I spend between one and two hours adding information about them to their Find A Grave biographies. I hope to add more yet to Daniel's site. I have added your name and contact information to his site and when I am done adding all I can, if you are interested in managing it, I would be glad to transfer it to you. In time, I think I will be able to fill in much of the missing information, however, in the mean time, I would appreciate hearing from you if you have any of this information at hand. Some people who I have come in contact with through Find A Grave feel Find A Grave is not the place for biographical material like this. I feel, especially because it's free to the public, that's it's the perfect place for all information that I can write about these veterans of the Civil War and I don't feel I can say enough about the veterans who have given so much for their country. Thanks for all you are doing to preserve the family history. Sincerely, Baxter

Dear Valerie, Thanks for the additional information that you sent me on Private Lochbaum. I have added this as well as other information. Please take a look at what I have now. I will continue to search for information about him and his family, but, if these are any missing pieces of information that you can help me with now, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Thanks for all you are doing for Find A Grave. It is and always will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Sincerely, Baxter

The picture was taken at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA (where the rest of his family is buried), but I believe he's buried in Hawaii. I just looked, and there's a duplicate record for him in O'ahu Cemetery. Unfortunately I can't read the stone much better than you would be able to because it's so worn away. If I were to guess I would say it says:
"Died Honolulu, HI
Sep. 16, 1859 Aged 27"

The changes you asked for on W B Prestridge have been made. When I linked him to his father I noticed that one of his sisters was named Lily, there is a Leila Prestridge ID #30724486 b. May 11, 1917 and d. September 28, 1957 buried in the same cemetery as William Barney Prestridge. Could this be his sister called Lilly? If so let me know and I will link her to her family as well. Thank you for the update on William Barney....

Hi Bob & Valery Johnson:
Matilda was a sister of my wife's grandmother, Martha Brown(86387995) who married James Cephus Davis (86387843).
It appears you have done extensive research on Matilda and it shows. My wife passed away in September 2011 and we were dedicated also until her health declined.
It was always a mystery to us as to what happened to Warren H. Hill b. abt. 1840 and their son, Floyd H. Hill who was b. June 1882 in MO.
Also, what happened to Claude Hill's wife Jennie who was b. abt. 1894 in MO.
If you could share this information I would appreciate it.

Actually, the Thomas stone is in a portion of a Baptist cemetery, adjacent to Iron Mountain (there are some stones, swallowed up by the woods) It was known as Iron Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery & here is a known list of those buried there
(but Thomas wasn't on the list & I found that stone there, so...) On my desktop unit, I have a file of some other headstones that are too hard to read. I'll look at them again & see what I can find.
