RE: John James Harris
Yes, that is the birthdate and location I have for my John James Harris so I believe they are the same. He migrated to Americus, Kansas where my grandmother, his great granddaughter, was from. I got that article from a lady who works at the library in Emporia. Do you have his father as Wiley Harris? I have a very detailed tree on If you would like, I can give you an invitation to it if you send me your email address. I would love to see your bible record or any other items which might be helpful.

RE: Mary Ellen Howard Brainard
I am a Brainerd/Brainard researcher, also a Brainerd. My connection, if my research is correct, is through her husband, Frederic Brainard and her 3 Brainard children. Distant cousins. I can't seem to find her on any census with her parents.

Mary Ellen Howard Brainard

You posted a very nice picture to this memorial. Can you tell me more? Her parents, her husband, her children?

I have her in my tree here but am not certain I have facts correct.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

RE: problem in San Luis Obispo
That's a good question, Anita.

If you don't mention F-A-G, you might be all right as travelers.

I don't know how he'll treat any one person; but I know what's happened to the requests, and I know how he treated me. I asked on the phone if I could just come on the property to take photos and didn't ask anything of him; and he said he would have me arrested. He started talking about HIPPA and the medical privacy of the deceased. He's making no sense, which I think makes him more dangerous.

problem in San Luis Obispo
I am a Find A Grave volunteer like you are. I am doing this to save you time and disappointment.
Sadly, there is absolutely NO cooperation from the San Luis Cemetery with Find A Grave volunteers. I was threatened with the police by the owner of the SL Cemetery, just talking to him over the phone. No volunteers have claimed a request in over 18 months. However, there has been great success with the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society. You can request a photo of the grave stone(s) for whom you are looking by doing the following; and they will respond promptly:

Address your email to
Put in the subject line
San Luis Cemetery Headstone photo

Give them the name and birth and death dates, or as much as you know. Ask them to send a picture of the headstone, and tell them how you are related or what your interest is in this person. They will appreciate that. This information may only be used in genealogical research. They will respond to you within a day or two.
I have checked the data base for you and found that those you are seeking DO have headstones.
They will send you the photo as an attachment to email. They took photos of the thousands of headstones they indexed in 2009 and 2010. They photographed virtually all headstones that could be deciphered. Everyone, who was buried there before 2009-2010, and who has a headstone, has a picture of their headstone in the database of the Genealogical Society. The society will respond to individuals, but prefers not to send pictures in bulk to Find A Grave volunteers. They also have not made an agreement to download their data to the Find A Grave servers.
I will ask that the request be removed, now that you have a very reliable and quick way to achieve your goal. If there is any problem, please let me know.
As a reference here is the website for the index. I have checked the index myself and found that a headstone exists for this person.
Best wishes.

Abraham Randall memorial #11272863....
I am not related to Mr Randall. If you are and want to maintain the memorial I would be happy to transfer it to you.

RE: Holt memorials
It is a case of 'less is more'. Someone would have to have put three of her names to find her with all three. Sometimes it works better with just first and last. Did you send the additional info to the other manager? He is pretty good about getting edits done in a day or two.
