Bio Photo MISSION: I believe Find A Grave's mission first and foremost is to document cemeteries; to accurately record graves, not to build one's family tree.

Find A Grave FAQs says: Find a Grave's mission is to find, record and present final disposition information from around the world as a virtual cemetery experience.

Memorial contributions to Find A Grave should fulfill that mission - registration of the final disposition. If the memorial contribution corresponds with only the main mission, then the memorial fulfills its purpose as part of Find A Grave's mission.

Find a Grave memorials [may] contain rich content including pictures, biographies and more specific information. Members can leave remembrances via 'virtual flowers' on the memorials they visit, completing the virtual cemetery experience.

TRANSFERS (PLEASE READ): Per Find A Grave FAQs, Transferring of management should only be requested If you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections without having to request management. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request. With hundreds of thousands of contributors, we have many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree.

Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Explain your relationship in the request! Any non-direct relatives (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) are not required to be transferred.

I will consider making out-of-guideline transfers on a case-by-case basis. Please tell me your specific relationship to the one you want transferred to you. I need specifics not vague statements such as this is my family member, my relative or they are in my family tree. IF YOU AREN'T SPECIFIC, I WILL IGNORE/DELETE YOUR REQUEST. Please be considerate when asking.

This is guidelines set forth by Find A Grave. If you don't agree with them, please take it up with Find A Grave.

Dorothy G Van Handle Spencer is not buried at St Joe's Cemetery in Appleton Wisconsin.
There is an obit from Appleton Alabama that I found for her.

BIRMINGHAM - A funeral mass for Dorothy G. Spencer, 83, of Birmingham, will be Monday, March 28, at noon at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Sylacauga with Father Richard Spencer officiating. The wake will be at 11 a.m. at the church. Mrs. Spencer died Thursday, March 24, in Birmingham.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Spencer of Birmingham; four sons, three of whom are in the ministry, the Rev. Jim Spencer and wife Jean of Plano, Texas, Father Rick Spencer of Oakland, Md., Bill Spencer and wife Elaine of Lancaster, Pa., and Father Robert Spencer of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; daughter, Peggy Fetyko and husband Joe of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Steven James Spencer, Patricia Spencer Kunkle, Jeanette Spencer Hirsh, Jessica Leigh Fetyko, Joey Spencer Fetyko, Derek Peter Spencer and Neil James Spencer; great-grandchild, Ryan Matthew Adams; and five other great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Vanhandle Kessler of Appleton, Wi., and Joan Vanhandle Sommerville of Zion, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Vanhandle; and a sister, Kay Witmer Vanhandle.

She served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Marine Corps and held the rank of Sergeant. She was an active supporter of scouting activities, Troops 117 and 27. She was a member and past president of St. Jude's Ladies Guild, member of parish council and Sylacauga Little League Auxiliary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude's Catholic Church, 310 W. Bay St., Sylacauga, AL, 35150. Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

I have corrected her maiden name and linked her to her parents. Thank you for sending the information so that I could have the correct information on her memorial.

RE: Robert Hazard edit
I am about 99% certain that she married both. She married Byron in 1955 and had 3 children. He died in a military plane crash in California in 1960. Robert was first married to Ardyce Moehlman in 1942 and they had either or 2 or 3 children. Ardyce died in 1971. So, the marriage of Robert and June in 1972 makes sense for both of them. So, that is my logic based on references to both wives in some of the sources. Hope this helps.

RE: Orvel Tollefson edit
Thanks for your reply. This is my uncle and we always knew him as Orville but again it is just in how it is spelled. This was common in the family Carl vs. Karl, etc. Appreciate your changing his middle name.

RE: Memorial 29072223
Oh, yeah, I forgot... I need to transfer it back to you.

The original creator of the memorial is the only one who can delete it...

I just transferred it back to you, so you should be able to delete it now. Let me know if that works.

Thank you Kathy!

Deb :)

Memorial 29072223
Hi Kathy,

Could I trouble you to delete memorial 29072223?

Due to a discrepancy in the birth date in the cemetery records and that which was listed on the grave stone, a duplicate was created. 131301748

In the process, all research pointed/linked all family members to the duplicate 131301748. To undo all of that would be painstaking versus you deleting your original which only has one link (her daughter). I have already asked the memorial manager of her daughter to change her link to 131301748.

Would you consider deleting 29072223 so I don't have to completely redo her entire family's links?

If not, then I can try to contact Find A Grave administrators and ask them if they can merge the two memorials.

Whatever you decide is okay by me.

Thank you and I am sorry for the trouble.
