Bio Photo I'm not quite sure how I got started with adding photos to Find A Grave. I do it at my leisure and enjoying placing photos that are legible and hope that people are delighted when they find information on family members.

Photo is of my pal Joey who enjoys romping in cemeteries with me.

Family Photo on 29618597

Henry Fankline Newman is my Great Grand Uncle and I found the photo you posted to be very nice. However, it appears that two of the boys are not present. I'm guessing that John and George are the two older boys standing in the back, but from there, I have no idea. The girl is Mattie Elizabeth and the baby is Myrtle Irene (b 1898) which would make the photo taken about 1900 as you indicated.

If you have other photos of the family, I am interested in acquiring them. My Newman ancestry is through William Allen and I have many photos of him and his family, including two photos taken at his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Mary Ellen Clark Newman, along with their children and grandchildren (including my mother as a teenager).

Please contact me through my e-mail address, attached to my ID (#47124609) if you have more information and photos on this family and are willing to exchange information.

Any ideas?
I found a bible that has an elderly couples name in it that has been buried in this cemetery. Do you have any ideas how to contact the family? I've looked online, but this is were I left off. I thought the family would like the bible. Believe it or not I live in California. Any help would be appreciated :)

RE: John Strang
I know that someone has been working that cemetery adding pictures of grave markers and updating it. I've been working independently adding copies of death certificates. I don't have a contact for them but Robyn will. It too bad they don't have general contact information on there Info page. I put mine on the Dora Cemetery Find A Grave Info page. I'll do whatever is needed to assist you

John Strang
I placed John Strang in the Myrtle Point Cemetery based on it being listed on the death certificate. It could be and probably is the one filling out the death certificate meant Norway since the two cemeteries are about 4 miles apart. It is actually the same death certificate. I can delete mine

RE: Obit for Robert Crowl 93669835
Copyright laws are federal laws and Find-a-Grave has some rules around them. I read the entire copyright law at one time (it's quite extensive). I don't remember all of it but for the most part, printed materials are protected for 75 years. Each year we can transcribe a newer years publications as they enter the public domain. As a general rule, I stick with anything published before 1930 as fair game. Most newspapers won't care anyway about a newer obituary being transcribed but some do. For obits 1930 and newer, I'll note the location of the obituary and a summary of it - including important aspects such as names of deceased parents etc... Another issue with newer obituaries is the publication of living people. Find-a-Grave has rules on that too. If the named persons (children, etc...) were young enough to still be living, and we don't know for sure if they are or not, we have to leave their names out. For that, I stick with a general rule of anyone born before 1910 (they would be older than 100 now). Amendments to copyright laws were made in the 70's restricting even further publications from that point forward (we won't live long enough to have anything from the 70's and newer in the public domain). There is another aspect of copyright laws that exempts some published information for non-profit purposes - that part is confusing and in a big gray area. Find-a-Grave is for profit so it wouldn't apply here anyway.

I hope this helps. I like to add obituaries to my memorials - they just need to be summarized if newer than 1930 (or so).

Thank you

Obit for Robert Crowl 93669835
Thank you for taking the time to transcribe the obituary for Robert Crowl. I know you put in a lot of effort. I'm sorry but I can't post a 2010 obituary as it is copy protected. I can post a summary of the obituary that mentions where the obituary can be found, dates, names of deceased people, etc...

Thanks again

James Walker Harpole obituary
While trying to locate the source of the information about James Walker Harpole,on the Find a Grave website, I was directed to contact Barb. I hope this message gets to you, Barb! Can you please let me know the source of this information? I am a descendant of the Harpole family in Pike County where this man was located before he moved to Oregon.
