|Grace Petron||RE: Sarah Ellen Morrison|
I have two copies of her death certificate; do you have the census copies? I think her name was fouled up on the 1870 so that may not be any help with the DAR. Do you have the Carpenters going back to Virginia? There is one error out there hooking Abner to the wrong ancestor. I think I still have that discussion on an email somewhere. Who is the great grandfathers of the DAR candidate, if you are ok with giving out the information. Very exciting to find someone with records I may not have. Jackie Carpenter, the guy I help, is an exact match with Abner's descendants but Benjamin, husband of Lucinda is the big problem. He is on the 1850 Census in Illinois and records name him as the father, but we don't have a death record. If you found one, about 20 people will scream over the telephone! He died in the end of the Civil War or of a disease shortly after he got out and is suspected to be buried with the Menard and the neighboring county, I forget what it is but can look it up. Message Martha Caswell with you question, for sure, she may have visited some of Sarah's kin. Let me know what happens..Grace
|Jay Whitman||RE: Parents of Sarah Ann Brown Smith|
Forgive me for taking so long to respond but, I've been extraordinarily busy these past few days!
Anyway, I cannot provide you with the necessary documentation. However, I may be able to point you in the right direction.
You see, the Michael Braun (Brown) family, Sarah Ann's gr-grandfather, was a German immigrant, born in 1721, and arrived in America in 1737. Michael built what is now the oldest standing granite structure in N.C. and is known as the "Old Stone House", located in Granite Quarry, N.C.. Michael and his descendants (he had 11 children) have played a prominent role in the history of Rowan County, N.C. and his family has been the subject of several genealogical publications and is very well documented. One of Michael's children was John Brown, a Revolutionary War soldier and grandfather of Sarah Ann. I would refer you to the two publications that I used as "proof" of Sarah Ann's lineage. Both publications list the necessary documentation but, I took it on face value and did not note the documents.
1) A History of the Michael Braun Family, Richard L. Brown (1921)
2) Michael Braun of the Old Stone House, His Influence, and His Descendants, Roscoe Brown Fisher (1975)
Also, in conjunction with both the Old Stone House Museum and the Rowan County Museum, there exists the Brown-Fisher Association, Inc. which is a non-profit association dedicated to preserving the Old Stone House through memberships, primarily consisting of Braun (Brown) descendants but, it's also open to public membership and they publish a magazine called "Rowan Roots".
I would recommend that you contact Mrs. Juanita Lagg, Coordinator to the Board of Directors of the Brown-Fisher Association. Mrs. Lagg has access to the publications that I referenced and may be able to give you the exact location of of the records you're searching for. She may be reached at #704-633-4229.
Finally, I might add that I have been linked, with extremely high probability, through DNA, with many 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th cousins that are all descendants of Michael Braun. Personally, that leaves no doubt in my mind that Michael Brown is the father of Sarah Ann, my 2nd gr-grandmother, and gr-granddaughter of Michael Braun of the Old Stone House!
Lastly, through my own research, I'm not unfamiliar with the descendants of Amanda Cornelia Whitman Klutz, my 2nd Gr-Aunt. Are you at liberty to divulge who your applicant is? Or, at the very least, could you ask them to view my contributor page on F.A.G. and drop me a line? I'd love to hear from my cousin!
I hope this information is helpful! I'm now rather disgusted with myself for not noting the references! However, I'm planning a trip to Rowan County this August and will gather all necessary documentation during that trip.
If you require any other information from me, please don't hesitate to contact me!

|Sharon McMillen||RE: Newspaper archives|
That would be wonderful if you forwarded the obit. Thanks so much!
|Sharon McMillen||Mauda Stroud Harber|
Is the obituary for Mauda something I can find online? When I clicked Genealogy at the Pioneer Library in Shawnee, I couldn't figure out where the archives for the newspaper were.
|Sharon McMillen||Mauda Stroud Harber|
Thanks for all of the updates on Mauda. Is the DAR app for Harber's side of the family.
|Sharon McMillen||Mauda Stroud Spurr Harber|
I don't have a obituary for Mauda. However, given that she died in 1957, you shouldn't have any trouble finding one for her. I would think the librarians in Shawnee could help you.
You could also try contacting one of her direct descendants; Harold Spurr, the president of Spurr Mortgage, in Edmond, Oklahoma, would be one option. The contact information for his business is on the Internet.
Mauda was my great grandmother's sister.
|Travis Neville Hopson||RE: Additional info. on Sterling B. Izard|
Holley, I am Travis son of Mary Ann Izard Hopson... the Paul Isbell who created almost all of my Izard memorials..was a historian in Forrest City, St. Francis Co Ark. He did alot of RESEARCH on the Izard Family over the years....In my discussions on email with him he told me he would send me Control of ALL his Izard Memorials.as he was MUCH older and was not KIN to this familyl..So since there are two memorials...we need to make sure all the INFO ON MY Memorial is Correct..and then ask Find a Grave to Combine them...NOT just delete mine as it has more info than the other one..SO since Sterling is your line...is all of Janie May's information correct in her paragraph..and do you have a birth date on him.??? if it is correct on my memorial page...I will get them combined. Thanks Travis

Sarah Ann Elizabeth Moran was married to George Henry Izard, son of John G Izard and Rhoda Higgins. Is this the Ann you are talking about?
