RE: Crawford Cemetery, Canton Township, Benton County Iowaa
Thank you for responding. Always was so sad as a kid that no one took care of this little cemetery. Would clean up the around what stones were showing and pick violets, leave them flowers and wonder who they were and how they got there.

I am looking at the picture you submitted for this cemetery. Were any gravestones found? Is that a sign that has been put up by someone? In the middle 1960's I played in this timber and cleaned and weeded around the gravestones. I think there were about a dozen whole stones then. The stones were very close to the trees, sort of in between the biggest roots that branched out. Most stones were semi buried then and hard to read. I used to know some of the names on them but, no longer can recall. I have read what I can find and all info. indicates this was the first cemetery in the area. The first Presbyterian church was located fairly close to it. Rev. Williston Jones who was connected to the creation of Coe College in Cedar Rapids helped start that church. This is what I was researching originally. This area was the first "Shellsburg".

Michael B. Cline 32006826
Hi:
Could you possibly tell me if there is a B. after Michael's 1st name on this headstone picture you took? Michael B. Cline #32006826. I don't see a B. after his 1st name on the headstone and I have enlarged it as much as I can. I am researching this name and finding much confusion. There seems to be at least 2 but maybe 3 Michael Clines whose info/docs. appear to have been mixed together here on findagrave and on ancestry.com. Please see Michael B. Cline #34412231 also and you will start to see what I mean. I have found 2 different burial sites on ancestry.com both in Iowa for the Michael in memorial 32006826, one in this Cline Family Cemetery and another in a Cemetery called Lone Tree and then I found this other one here on findagrave #34412231 and he and his father are both Michael B. Clines with different DOB and DOD and in Maryland and Virginia. I am trying to put the pieces to this puzzle together with the right ancestors. Any help you can give would be appreciated. If you can't tell if there is a B. after his 1st name on the headstone would it be possible for you to go back to this cemetery and take a closer/clearer photo of headstone or write down what it says and let me know? Thanks so much for your help.

No, I don't have anything on her or when she died. I wasn't sure if she was buried next to him or not. Thanks again.

Thanks for taking the picture. By any chance was his wife next to him?

Mike,

Don't you love the view from Hala Cemetery looking east over Northwestern Johnson County? Thanks again for taking the photos and creating the memorials.

Xfer of Memorials
Made requested xfer. If you wish other relatives xferred send a list with their Find A Grave numbers. Only thing I ask is that you not delete my entry then enter a new one. Would like to keep my name as the originator. You can modify the entries to your hearts content otherwise. Your photo was a great addition to the xferred entry especially since my material didn't have dates. Keep up the good work!
