Hi W Profitt,
May I have permission to post your photo of Elizabeth's gravestone? I will be sure to give full credit. Thank you,

Frances Ophilia Skinner Proffitt (1864 - 1933) would be my Great, Great, Grandmother.

Frances Ophilia Skinner Proffitt (wife of John McKindred Proffitt) seems to have been from a prominent family the Skinners. I remember my Grandfather JD talking about them. One of the Skinners was president of a local bank in Jonesburg or nearby. I drove down from Cedar Rapids to visit Jonesburg last week and took a picture of the Skinner family tombstone at the cemetery. This tombstone has a family tree of Skinners going back to 17th century Scotland. I took a picture of it and will post it when I have a chance. I guess the best place for me to post it would be Frances Ophilia Skinner Proffitt's profile as she is my closest Skinner relative.

My Great Grandfather Emmitt Clayton Proffitt and his wife also had a younger daughter named Betty. She married Eddie Clark. I believe they live in St. Charles. They had 2 sons (Craig and JR).

Wow, that's great. I'll look up your Proffitt profile on Ancestry.com as soon as I get a chance.

Thank you for taking my Aunt Pearl and Uncle Jim's memorial pictures. There is another Navy memorial where they have their names with a picture engraved. I have a not very good picture of it that my mother took years ago. If I post the picture could you find out more about it, or take a new picture for me? All my mother knows is that it was located on a mountain by the coast. LOL (She is 82.) They were remarkable people, I am so proud to have known them!

I have hot linked to the siblings.
Emmitt Clayton Proffitt was my Great Grandfather. His son JD Proffitt was my Grand Father. JD grew up on the family farm near Jonesburg MO, he worked at a company called Binkley's -- I believe it was in Warrenton, lived briefly in St. Louis, served with the US Army in the Pacific during WWII, and settled in Marion IA after the war. He married Neoma Ward in 1946, they had 2 children (Monnie [my mother] and Jim). JD worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids for 42 years retiring in 1988. He passed away in 2009 and his grave is located at Cedar Memorial Cemetary in Cedar Rapids, IA. He has 2 children my a first wife (John and Janet who I do not remember). My grandfather JD was as nice of a person as you would ever meet.

I found a book in Willard Library in Evansville, IN that has many more names for this old cemetery. Apparently, it was done many years ago when the tombstones were in much better shape.
I hope to have them updated to Find a Grave soon.
