THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Dear Debbie; I am so thankful that you got pictures of John and Elizabeth Fee's stones from the old Fee Cemetery, near Augusta, KY. When I was there about 12 years ago, I could not get into the pasture where the stones were, as they family at the house next to the pasture said that one of the animals was kind of mean. I could see the 2 stones from the fence, but could not read them from that distance. I was so sad. Could you do me a favor? I would love to have pictures of the broken stones that you saw, as they are also markers for my family. I know they cannot be read, but it would be so great to have them. I would be very, very happy to pay you for your help in this. Rob Johnson, Urbana, IL

Thank you so much for the pictures! I especially liked to see who she was buried next to (or between as this case is!). Would you mind if I used the picture in my ancestry research? Thank you.
