I became interested in genealogy back in 1960 when my paternal grandmother passed away in
Greencastle, Sullivan Co., MO., where my dad was born and raised, and we were going through her attic. We found this large portrait of, what ended up being, my gr gr grandfather. My mother did much research at the library before the internet and wrote a lot of letters by hand.
I spent many happy weekends in Sullivan, Putnam and Adair counties, visiting cousins. Now they are all gone but 1, my father is deceased, my mother died of Alzheimers in June, 2012 and didn't know me for years before that. I miss all the conversations with them all so much and have thought of so many questions I wish I had asked when I had the chance.
I live in Kansas City, MO and in my spare time, I am either inputting graves or going to cemeteries and writing down the information there so I can work on findagrave. I want everyone to be remembered, no one left behind. I try hard to connect family members so they can be together again, as in life. Isn't that a weird thing? I have no life.

"The goal at Find A Grave should not be to manage all of your family members. If you have information to add, you should suggest it to the current manager and they should make the changes."
~Jim Tipton, creator of Find A Grave.
I've never requested a transfer of my own grandparents, and the one who has it is no relation to them. I don't HAVE to have them in my "posession".
In fairness to those who may have closer ties to a memorial, please read the Transfer Guidelines prior to requesting a transfer. You do not need to "manage" every memorial that is part of your family tree. Remember that this site is for locating burials, not building a tree. There are other websites that are more suited for that purpose. I will be happy to make any links and corrections. PLEASE use the SAC feature ("Edit" tab). Please feel free to add photos where appropriate, as you do not need to manage the memorial to add photos.

Please consider using the "virtual cemetery" feature on this site to keep track of relations.

USE THE EDIT TAB FOR INFORMATION. I AM NOT OFTEN ON THIS PAGE.

How do I enter all married names for a woman's memorial when she was married more than once?
The 'last name' is the name that is on the headstone. Include other married names as part of the biography section. The 'maiden name' is only for her maiden name.

RE: Leo Grom Memorial# 87867846
I would like the name of the book; if you can remember it.

I have my grandfathers death certificate and his full name is Leo Lawrence Grom. His death certificate says he was buried at Mt Mora on Oct 25, 1924.

I would be appreciated if you would remove the memorial you have for Leo Grom. Memorial# 87867846

The correct one is Memorial# 74146872.

I have the same situation with his wife Mary Anna Mechalke Grom.. memorial # 74147001 is correct - and memorial # 87867849 is not correct.

Thank you I greatly appreciate your time and attention to this concern.

Thank you for your suggestions. I did make the corrections to his memorial and changed his wife's name to Katherine with a K, even if the stone says Catherine with a C.
Have a great day,
Cathy

Banta
I found Demaris and the kids on the 1910 census. It says she is widowed. So Walter's dad had to have died before 1910. Abraham Cornelius Banta died in 1912 in Indiana, not IL or MO. If you take a look in Indiana on Find a Grave there are several Abraham Bantas. Since Walter's Dad was born in IN it is safe to assume he is probably kin to these Bantas somehow. Also I bet Abraham was a family name that was used a lot! Easy to get these confused in that case. Are you related to the Banta family? One of Walter's sons married into my lines.

Walter W. Banta and his parents
I do believe that Walter's father was probably named Abraham. However, I'm just not sure the Abraham you sent me was the correct one. The Abraham Banta you sent me was Abraham Cornelius Banta born and died in Indiana who was married to a lady named Emma instead of Demaris Ledford. The Abraham I'm looking for to be Walter's Dad was born in or close to 1858. The one you sent me (Abraham Cornelius Banta was born in 1849, about a ten year difference. I would not be surprised if the Abraham we are looking for isn't buried at Greenmount with Demaris and just not on Find a Grave yet. I'm going to photo request Demaris and see if a volunteer can check it and hopefully they will find her husband with her. I'm sure these are two different Abraham Bantas.

Thank you
I really appreciate you following through with all the updates that I have been sending you, as well as all your initial efforts in listing my heirs on findagrave. I have been doing a lot of research for the Owings, Wood and Channell families and it is nice to have permanent information.
