A native-born resident of Marshall, Texas, I have begun researching my family's gravesites in the surrounding areas. From Avinger to Upshur County to sites all over Marshall and towns in and around Harrison County. |
I have walked and photographed markers in and around Harrison County at many of the cemeteries and want the information to be as complete as possible for future generations. My goal is to walk, locate, and record them all. I try to locate and add GPS coordinates every so often at the around 180 cemeteries in our county; I have even had funeral homes ask me to help them locate burial sites. If the markers are legible, I have photographed them and added them on here if missing. More get added all the time, and I try to stop and check for new ones now and then.
I have found hidden and lost cemeteries in Harrison County (some that the county and state records did not even show existed) and added them to this website, like Saint Marks/Carver and Cornerstone in the Harleton area, Pace Memorial Garden and Golden Hill in the Hallsville area, and Elizabeth Cemetery in eastern Harrison County near Leigh. I am trying to gather info on Harrison County cemeteries that have incorrect directions or none and locate them so they accurately appear on the Maps tab; if you know where a cemetery is but can not get to it, let me know! Batts Cemetery is one of my newest attempts at finding the exact location.
I recently rediscovered Amie-Haggerty and Haley cemeteries near Scottsville & Jones Cemetery near I-20 in Hallsville.

If you have your messages disabled or your email is not available, please do not leave me an odd edit request. If I cannot contact you to verify sources or if I have a question, your edit may be declined. Reasonable changes are rarely questioned.
Also per Findagrave guidelines, I will not add an obituary, or link to an obituary, to a memorial without permission from the original media publisher/newspaper/website. Just stating where you got your information is not legally binding as getting permission to republish that information.

Hi Bill, fyi, your Emily is a duplicate for Emily F Abbott Inge # 119016318, created 2 years before yours. Also do you know where the cemetery name comes from? Was there a sign at some point?
Thanks for any info!

I am not related to Lonnie but my family has known his family for many years and yes, you may mention my name. I discussed the Scott Cemetery with him not long ago. He is still interested in getting it listed on the map but someone bought the property it sits on and ran him off when he tried to look for his family's graves. I am not associated with the Scott Cemetery but he may be able to help you. I am, however, on the board at the Forrest-Rogers-Dollahite Cemetery and will be glad to help you with anything I may have recorded as I created an album of those I know that are buried there which includes a lot of my family from years ago (Forrest, Etheridge and Gibson families along with their exteneded family.
Thanks for all you do.

Hi Bill. I see you took a photo of Sybil's mother's marker, #13374110, which is a double marker. Could you check to see if the marker has been updated with Sybil's date of death and post a new photo for both if so?
