Shortly before Christmas in 2006, my friend La Jean came over to my house bringing with her a sheet of paper. I knew she had been working on her family history and was excited about all the information she had obtained on ancestry.com. On the paper was my birth index from California.La Jean showed me how the program worked after we logged onto my computer. I input my mom's name under the search tool. Up popped her passage from Germany when she was four years old. I was hooked.I spent many days on the website learning who I am through those who came before me in the family. I then expanded my research to other websites and found findagrave.com.At findagrave I found a way to not only research my family, but to also leave memorials to those gone before me so others too might share in my information. I also introduced La Jean to this wonderful website. As I navigated through the various options, I found the request a photo button. I put in my requests and waited. As I viewed my email one night, I saw a request had been filled.I quickly went to the page in honor of my great grandfather and what I saw brought tears to my eyes. The pictures, taken by a stranger, were so beautiful and well done, it moved me.After that I, along with my friend La Jean, decided we too could fill photo requests so that people we didn't know could see where their loved ones were buried. We both find it rewarding and much fun to go on our findagrave photos trips. We only hope we make as much a difference with the photos we take as other volunteers have made by taking our photo request pictures. Thank you so very much to all you volunteer photo takers!!!
