I am a retired high school teacher and librarian and have been interested in my family history for many years. Many of my ancestors were too poor to be able to afford headstones or tombstones. We have oral histories, but not very much printed records. Slowly, I and my sister have been adding these records to prove or disprove our family stories. The one thing that has been so discouraging in finding info is the changing of birth names to nicknames or the misspelling of various first and last names which provides problems when using a computer search program. I have found many errors which I have wanted to correct and now plan to do so if possible to the best of my ability.

RE: Owens
Any info is helpful. I'm also related to the Clifton's. Some are buried at Auslins Methodist Cemetery in Randolph County, AL. There also many more in Louisana. If you have no info that's fine.
Thank you for your time.

Johnnie "little shug" Owens would have been my great uncle. I am trying to find info on the Owens, Mitchells and also the Sheppherd. Andrew Jackson Sheppherd Owens is my great grandfather but he was adopted by the Owens so my bloodline is actually on the Shppherd side. I believe that Andrew's biological father was James Sheppherd and his biological mother was Polly Sheppherd.

Please email me at

Thank you.

RE: Center Grove
That is strange! I just checked those 4 again and I'm still seeing them upside down.

Center Grove
Thanks for the edits to my memorials at Center Grove and for posting the headstone photos. I'm not sure why, but some, not all, of the photos are posted upside down. I thought you would want to know since it looks rather odd and you will probably want to correct them. The ones I noticed were Arnold Hart, Ezra Green, Jossie Green, and Ruby Mae Hart. There may be others.

Best regards,

RE: James Stilley
You are absolutely correct. Now I see George and Evelyn on the 1930 Winn Parish LA census.

I have no idea where I came up with James. I'm having a senior year, it appears.

Thanks for the heads up on the wrong photo on the memorial. Now I need to see if I can the correct one on my external hard drive.

RE: James Stilley
George W. Stilley (1856-1933) #114092864 is already linked to his wife, Mary Emma Paul Stilley (1857-1938).

Notice how nicely their birth dates are in line.

Evelyn M. Littleton was born in 1907.
George M. was born in 1899.

George M. was the son of George W. and Mary Emma, but I cannot find a record of his death anywhere, even on

I don't have any idea where I got the James, but you are right, it was a mistake. My apologies; I was just in too much of a rush.

Please link George M and Evelyn.
