I have been happily married for 40 years. I have one daughter & 6 grandchildren. I retired from a major communications company several years ago. I love to sew & garden, but mostly genealogy. I have three dogs that I spend a lot of time with as well. I became interested in genealogy in 2000 when my Dad's cousins' husband sent him a package full of data he had collected on our branch of the family. My Dad asked me to look it over and before I knew it I was hooked. The man who sent the package was Lloyd Smith, a major contributor to this website. We have since become friends and finally got to meet when he travelled from IL to San Diego to attend our Family Reunion in 2011. I am an avid researcher and have a tree called "The Drury Tree" on ancestry.com web-site. After a trip to IL where I photographed the graves of numerous ancestors I became interested in cemeteries. I try to pass on information to Find A Grave as I obtain it. I have found so many people here and feel it is a very important researching tool.
Sara Talley Pirduy Mary, I saw your name on the memorial page in Hurricane cemetery for Sarah Talley.
Do you know what relation Sarah was to any of the other Talley's buried in Hurricane? I saw that her father was William. Was William Talley from around Davidson or Wilson county Tn?
Is Sarah related to Tabitha Talley Storme buried in Williamson County Ill around Crab Orchard? I have forgotten the name of the cemetery.
The reason I ask all these questions, my 2nd great grandmother was Winiford Talley Cravens buried in Hurricane Cemetery in Carterville. She was from around Davidson county Tn. She had married a John Cravens in Tn, he apparently died & she moved her family (as the story goes on horseback to southern Ill) because she had some family already there.
I got in touch with a descendent of Tabitha Talley Storme thru Find A Grave just recently, Dona Roth I think (may have the name spelled wrong). Dona is a descendent of Tabathia Talley. I believe from some of the records on the Family Search Screen shows that Tabitha's father was William Talley.
I am trying to find who the relatives of Wineford Talley Cravens were that she came to see in Ill. It appears all these Talley's I am referring to were located in & around Williamson County Ill.
There are other Talley's buried in Hurricane cemetery beside Sarah & Wineford Talley Cravens. Not sure who they are related to. The other Cravens buried in hurricane are direct descendants of Wineford Talley Cravens.
Do you know who Sarah's brothers & sisters were? Mrs. Roth told me that Tabitha had a brother called Bird. Thank you for any information you can give me.
RE: Albert You are very welcome Mary. My family lived right across the street from your aunt and uncle on the corner of Converse. Newt was a great man I remember him coming over and helping my stepfather when we were laying concrete and building on to our home, you don't see people do that kind of thing much now days. My mother took painting lessons from Shirley, Shirley was really talented at painting, my stepfather still has some of the paintings. I have many Cananday family in Illinois and have found the spelling change in some of the lines, but did not find any of them living in Williamson County, but that does not mean they are not related I may not have found them in my tree yet. You should be very proud to of had Newt and Shirley for your uncle and aunt, as I am to of had them for my neighbor. Phineas Gates
Thompson Family I have added the links and I have transferred all the memorials to you. I am in the process of posting all of my photos from Oak Hill to find a grave. I do have a long way to go, I have thousands of photos. I was very happy to get your request and transfer the memorials to family.
My name is Myra Starling, I have been adding cemetery records to some Illinois cemeteries for a few months now, the records that I am adding are coming from the genealogical periodical "Saga of Southern Illinois". In the July-Sept. 1975 issue the records for McGowan cemetery appear. I wanted to let you know that the record for Melissa A. wife of M. Nelson d. Aug. 10, 1864, has an age for Melissa as, aged 25 y. 2m 25 days.
