In a LaClede History I found a reference to Henry when he was an old man. He was visited by "Blackjack" (General John J) Pershing who was in LaClede on a visit. Pershing grew up in LaClede and Henry was referred to as his "old teacher." (Pershing was stationed in Huntsville, AL, during the Spanish American War and was associated with the family of Union Colonel John Van Valkenburgh.)
A California legend, probably out of Escondido, has it that one of John's granddaughters, probably Ella Gaither VV, had a huge crush on Pershing. He wasn't married at the time he visited Huntsville. Pershing's mother Ann was from nearby in TN.

Hello Sandra,

How are you related to Kenneth son of Neil and Evelyn VanValkenburg? If you are the daughter of Kenneth than we are 3rd cousins.

Hi, I sent a SAC on NOv 11, 2015, with a newspaper article. It must have gotten lost in your mail, as it wasn't processed. I just resent it, please see your email. THANK SANDY

There is no Saint John's Cemetery in Warren Arkansas. Please recheck your info and make the correct changes.

Captain Henry W. Thomas
I was so happy to see the pic of Henry W. Thomas and Louisa Hornbecks grave site. Thank you. I have a picture of Henry with his grand daughter Kathryn Van VanValkenberg. He is my great grandfather whose daughter Lillian May married Dwight T. McEntee. I would love to find the maiden name of Samuel Thomas's wife Mary. Are we related? Hope to hear from you
