Bio and Links
Bio Photo Besides working on my own family tree I'm building trees here and on Ancestry.com to link the men, women and children buried at the state hospitals in Morganton, NC and Goldsboro, NC and at the Caswell Training Center in Kinston, NC and Letchworth Village in NY to their loved ones. My latest project is to list all the men, women and children buried at East Texas Asylum in Rusk, TX.

I grew up in Greenville county, SC, first in the city of Greenville, then at the foot of Glassy Mountain in the "Dark Corner" where my maternal grandmother and her parents and grandparents were born. My mother, Anne Ballenger King McCuen, worked for decades as a meticulous land historian in upper SC and published several research texts. My father, William Garrison McCuen, MD worked for decades as an internist/general practitioner caring for many of the upstate SC residents in their homes, hospitals, the Veterans' clinic and his office.

Now I am in the foothills of NC, but enjoy maintaining family property near Glassy Mtn.

You hereby have my express permission to use ANY photo I have posted to Find a Grave for your own purposes - but I would appreciate a credit notation as the source should you repost it on your family tree, for this reflects the efforts made in preserving the record and may also provide a link to others interested in that person or cemetery.

I "inherited" a number of memorials posted by Buck Buchanan who introduced me to FAG and will happily transfer them to family. Just send a SAC stating your relationship and I'll be pleased to turn them over to your care. Alternatively, if you are working to identify folks in a particular cemetery where Buck posted memorials and would like to manage the memorials he posted - just let me know and I'll be happy to transfer them to your management. I have found that Buck duplicated a few of the memorials he posted - if you find that to be the case please let me know so I can remove the duplicates.

As for those of you who assist me in making these memorials useful and respectful, "thanks" and please keep your helpful edits coming.

A lot of conflicts might be avoided among us if each of us will accept and act as if this is about those who've gone before and NOT about us.

RE: Cleophas R Allen Memorial# 25288027
Thanks so much for making the corrections to Cleophas' memorial so promptly. I didn't give you much time to see the SAC message, it was other contributors who did not respond, so I just added the public message up front. I found his info while researching his father, Atlas Allen, who was only a year older than his sister, Piety Allen Jenkins, who was my great-grandmother. Since Atlas had moved away after the 1860 census, lack of info on him frustrated family history researchers until on-line records began to appear on Find A Grave, Ancestry, scanned newspapers etc. Two of my cousins who grew up in Raliegh now live in Western NC. Although Dorthea Dix Hospital is not a target of your research, you might enjoy the story of their father's uncle, Ris Jenkins, Find A Grave Memorial# 64296010. I now live near Greenville, SC.

Cleophas R Allen Memorial# 25288027
Cleophas R Allen was the son of Annie Paschall Conyers and Atlas Jackson Allen. In the 1880 US Census, he can be found with his family in Marshall, Madison Co, NC. In 1900, he is with his family in Waynesville, Haywood Co, NC. There are several newspaper articles that are available on Newspapers.com which indicate that Cleophas R Allen, son of Atlas J Allen, is the one who was committed to the state mental hospital. He was likely born in Franklin Co, NC, where he can be found with his family in the 1870 US Census - the almost illegible cursive erroneoulsy has him as Cleophas Conyers, since his maternal half-sibs are listed before him. I am sending this note before making changes to his birth info, and before linking him to his correct parentage, to suggest changes to his bio to correct his family information. I am sending this as a public message since the edit tab "Suggest any other correction or addition" doesn't seem to elicit responses.

Can't remember if you were the one working on him, but if so, I located more of his children. Thanks for all you do.

RE: Sarah Arlena Wilson Norton
If you would be so kind, would you link Mrs. Sarah to her Husband. John Burruss Norton, #103039330. He is buried beside her at the Norton Cemetery. This will get Mrs. Sarah fixed up.
Thanks for your help.

Sarah Arlena Wilson Norton
Hi Suzannah, someone sent me an e-mail to let me know that I had a duplicate for Sarah Arlena Norton. You have her buried at Broughton Hospital #58937790. I have her buried at the Norton Cemetery, #103039692. I made a picture of her headstone at the Norton Cemetery. Evidently she died in the Broughton Hospital but was buried in the Norton Cemetery. I will gladly remove my memorial, if you would like to change the cemetery. Please let me know.
Thanks for your help.

A H Rimmer-33233855
Hello!! I'm doing Ellen's edits for her while she is ill. You requested for Mr. Rimmer for his first name to be listed as Arcadamus. His marriage records looks like it has Arcadmus H Rimer, most family trees have Acadamus Hughes Rimmer. Census records are not much help as there are various spellings or he is just listed as A H. I located the death certificates of 3 of his children and they all have A.H. Rimmer. (Links have been requested for Hortense Rimmer Leath and Eugene Rimmer.)

Do you happen to have a family bible, a deed, a Will, or other record that lists his first name? If not, I think for right now it needs to remain listed as it is until a record is found with a better source. Please let me know if you can come up with anything.
Thank you very much!! :)

RE: Martha Riley Whitehart
I have done the 2nd request that you sent linking the parents. When I denied the 1st request, did you see the note that I was questioning it because the mother is 20 yrs. older than the father? That is very unusual, but possible.
