Thank you for putting my g-g grand uncle on find a grave.
Added by Jack Prue on Jul 27, 2014 2:51 PM
Thanks to you I was able to pay my respects today to my four times great uncle. It took 150 years but someone from the family finally made it to see him. FYI - His brother Peter (my four times great grandfather) named one of his sons after William...and my dad (now 82) remembers that Bill very well. History really is closer than it seems.

RE: Henry C Gurney and Rhoda J Foot Gurney
I got it originally from another family tree. The the marriage date is May 10,1860- then on June ll, 1860 she is enumerated on the census with her parents , brother Ralph and sister Maria as Rhoda J Gurney.
She died 23 September, 1860.

She and Henry have adjacent burials at Maple Grove being in graves 2 and 3 of Sec 134 Lot 1. To me that is proof that they were indeed married, although I have been unable to locate any specific marriage documention.

Alexander Carden
The info came from Peggy Holley's book on the 7th Tn Cavalry:

This is the complete entry from the book:

CARDEN, ALEXANDER (ALFRED) K, Co E, private. There is very little information in his muster rolls. He was recruited but not mustered. Presumed to have been captured with the regiment at Union City, TN on 3/24/64, he ended up in Andersonville Prison where he died on 6/11/64 of either dysentery, chronic diarrhea, or scurvy and erysipelas. All were mentioned on various documents and one said disease unknown. The New York Times gave his death as 7/11/1864 and said it took place in the Carnel House at Andersonville. Carden was the son of James and Clara (Clarissa) Chamblee Carden. His mother applied for a dependent pension on his service. She gave her address as "ten miles from Huntingdon, Tenn, on the wagon road to Spellings' Bridge on Sandy River." She was already a widow when Alfred K Carden enlisted.

As you can see, he did not muster which would explain why he is not on the rosters.

Hope this helps - G-Man

Sarah E. Bradbury Whitley(?)
Here's what I could find. She died in Union Co. IL 4-11-1945. Married to William H. Whitley as of 1910, living in Jonesboro, IL, born abt. 1859 or 60. Sadie Graham Whitley may have been a daughter in law, as Sadie Whitley is living in her household in the 1930 Census. See Sadie Graham Whitley Find A Grave # 93341977.

The only other Whitley I could find was in Rosehill Cemetery, Williamson CO IL, William Whitley YOD 1974. He was possibly born in 1910, need to confirm that. His plot number has him buried next to William and Della ARMES. Possibly Sadie's grandson and related to the Armes family.

I hope this helps!

William Hockman
Thank you Janet. Without your efforts I never would have found William's grave. He was a close friend of my g-grandfather who had died in the war in 1863.

Hi Janet,

Thanks for the edit for Sarah Harland. As you have created quite the memorial for her husband, I am transferring Sarah's memorial to your care.

William Bricker
Hi Janet, The original transcriber transferred all the Bricker Memorials in Ebenezer Cemetery to me since I have 5 generations of Brickers buried there. However I have not been able to place William in any of my families. I suspect the word she is a typo but I have not been back to Ebenezer Cemetery for about twelve years so I can not confirm anything at this time. I have four different William Bricker ancestors who could have served in the Civil War but I have no proof at this time that any of them actually did. Sorry I can not be of any help to you. Take care - Madeline

RE: Moses Brandon
Thank you so much for finding James C. Brandon. I had been looking for years but not for awhile. His brother Ebenezer Brandon was in a different unit and did return home to his family. I am so touched that I now have pictures of his resting place. I was hoping somehow he was brought back home though I could not find a gravestone here. His brother Ebenezer Brandon is Find A Grave#99620469 in the Lewis Cemetery, Independence, Hennepin, Minnesota. I believe his parents Moses & Elizabeth Brandon are also buried here but am still looking for burial records as we have found no gravestones. There is room in the family plot that they may be there but I need to prove it. His wife Eliza M. Hall Brandon McGary is FAGMemorial#131469173 in Lewis Cemetery, Independence, Hennepin, Minnesota. Her 2nd husband John H. McGary was the brother of Nancy McGary Brandon who was the sister-in-law to James. The Brandons & McGarys were close as families. Thank you again.
