Bio and Links
Bio Photo Started doing my local cemetery and after finding several Civil War vets I thought it would be interesting to look for Revolution and Civil War burials in Dearborn Co. Indiana. That in turn has turned into finding pioneer and forgotten burial grounds in my area also. Will transfer most memorials unless they are my ancestors. Corrections are appreciated, nasty grams are not.
If anyone knows of a Civil War burial, [or Revolutionary War] vet in Dearborn County IN. that I have missed please let me know.
If you want to use photos I have taken ok, just give me credit.

We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe.

RE: Blasdel Cemetery, Ripley Co., IN
Thank you for your reply. Also thank you for the memorial you created for Tavner Cheek in Dearborn County. In addition to his being the brother of Nicholas Cheek (as you mentioned), he is also the brother of Nancy Cheek Green, my 4x-great grandmother.

I see that you have photographed the entrance to Blasdel Cemetery. Do you know anything about an old cemetery, the Woolery Family Cemetery, that is also in Washington Township, Ripley County? It has just a few graves and was located on a farm owned by a Clyde Woolery. I have ancestors buried there and would like to create memorials for them, but I have no idea of its location.
Thank you.

J McLefresh
Bovard Cemetery
Do you know anyone that can help me with records at Bovard Cemetery.

I have found a story in The Recorder, June 17, 1887 stating that Dr. Martin McLefresh died and will be buried in the Bovard Cemetery.

He was a Corpsman in the Civil War and later became a Doctor.

At the time of his death he was living in Milton, Ohio County.

John Lorenz Buchta
Hello Justin,
You created a page for my gr-gr-grandfather, John Lorenz Buchta (Puchta), memorial #34542259. His son, Leonard is also buried in River View Cemetery and has a Find A Grave page (memorial #14893467). Would you be willing to transfer ownership of John's memorial to me or else to create a family link to Leonard's page.

As best I know, the 'correct' spelling of the surname is Puchta or at least that is the spelling that was handed down to my generation.

Thank you.
Michele

RE: Dorothea Marie Bierman Wilkening
Ok, I'm new to Find A Grave so I'm not sure really how it works, but you took photos at St. John's correct? How did you know to attach Dorothea Maria Bierman Wilkening to St. John's? The death date is identical and this has to be the same person, I have no records showing another Bierman married to a Wilkening. Thanks for your help!

Dorothea Marie Bierman Wilkening

Hello, this probably my relative but according to an autobiography written by her son, she was buried with her husband and a granddaughter in Concord Cemetery. I'm wondering why she is attached to St. Johns? Do you have a photo of the marker? There is a shared marker photo for her and her husband in the listings for Concord. This is very confusing!

Thanks for your help!

Lewis Ott 47235540
Justin,

I searched for my great uncle, Louis Frederick Ott, and didn't find him. I created a new entry numbered 158113144. I just discovered that you had him listed as Lewis F. Ott 47235540. Do you know how to merge or delete people? I would be happy to take possession of his record if you like. Also, if you happen to be in Union M.E. Church Cemetery in the future could you please take a photo of his grave? The rest of the family was from, and stayed in, Louisville, KY. After his wife died, Bud just kind of wandered away and no one in the family knew what happened to him until I found his death while doing genealogy.

Thank you,
Deborah

RE: Grave of Sarah Harris
Thanks, Justin, and no problem. I'm now thinking my view of the Holman Hill Cemetery was mistaken and I'm looking instead back to the old Conwell Street Cemetery for the burial of Sarah Harris. Her grave is not listed in the records transcribed for this site, but her brother-in-law Francis Harris, who arrived in Aurora from England just two days after Sarah's burial, expired on Oct. 1, 1823 (less than 7 weeks after Sarah) and, as Samuel Harris's letters relate, was buried next to Sarah. There is a gravestone for Francis in the 'Old Conwell Street' section of River View Cemetery, but apparently nothing for Sarah. I am going to have to write to the River View Cemetery Association to see if they have information not showing on this site, as also about one or two other details of Harris family members' graves (William Tell Harris, his second wife Sarah Harris, and Susanna Lawford - Samuel Harris's daughter). I have been reading the excellent information about River View at http://www.nps.gov/nr/feature/places/pdfs/13001011.pdf and it seems to clear up our previous question about the Holman & Probst family cemeteries. The Probst family and Buffington family cemeteries were transferred to River View, as also Holman burials from Veraestau (so they say). Thanks again and sorry about the rain. We have had too much rain here as well, with vast areas of northern England and Scotland under flood water - never seen anything like it. Best regards, David

Grave of Sarah Harris
Dear Justin, Thank you for your listings of 36 graves in the Holman Hill Cemetery, Aurora, Ind. I am presently researching some old letters written by Samuel Harris of Aurora, 1821-1832, whose wife Sarah Harris died 1823 and, from the remarks written at the time by Samuel, seems to me must have been buried in the Holman Hill Cemetery. Unfortunately her name does not appear among those you list. Is the listing complete? Could there be more names to add? Or are some graves unmarked, as far as you know? I have no means of searching for myself, as I live in England. You may care to look up an earlier draft of my work on the letters by Googling 'Harris-Brown letters', on the second page of which you will also find my email address. Many thanks for help and best wishes, David Brady
