Bio Photo My grandmother used to tell me that I had an 'old soul' as I've always enjoyed family history and strolling through cemeteries. I enjoy walking amongst the stones reading inscriptions and expressions of sorrow and grief. I find cemeteries to be places for peace and contemplation. Now that I'm retired my time is spent photographing headstones as a means of preserving history.

Grave markers are replaced in National Cemeteries; usually because the spouse has passed away. Having a 'before' photo is documenting history.

I have a special affinity for World War I veterans (because of my grandfather), World War II (because of my uncles), VietNam (my father, brother and several cousins) and Persian Gulf (another brother). My nephew has served a deployment in the Middle East. The US military and veterans remain a part of my life. I'm thrilled but yet humbled to photograph the grave marker of a veteran and those of his or her family members.

I also have a special interest in the German people and families that helped San Antonio and South Texas grow and develop.

My paternal grandfather was an immigrant from Scotland. The Scots keep great records. If you need any help or guidance in researching Scottish family members; I'd be happy to offer my help.

Placing grave marker photos, tombstone photos, or family photos on Find A Grave is a wonderful way to share with the world (and for free!) the life of each and every person. As such, it is the complete opposite of Ancestry which shares only with its fee-paying clientale.

With the exception of my own personal family photos, photos I post can be used by others for their personal, private and/or non-commercial use. If you want to post them to Ancestry, please respect my efforts. Do NOT copy my photos to ancestry.com without giving me credit. Simply copy and paste:

© 2009-2013 CynC on Find A Grave. Used with permission.

I'd appreciate a note letting me know you have copied them.

Please, stop by a cemetery and take your camera. Get photos of those tombstones and markers before they disappear by sinking into the ground, marred by vandalism, destroyed by Mother Nature or are replaced.

Could you please tell me if this cemetery has a lock in the gate? I notice that you took headstone photos.
Would appreciate a reply at your convenience.

Lamar E Matthews Headstone
Thank you so much for your efforts. When we cannot visit the grave of our ancestors, this is such a lovely service! Do you photograph the reverse of these headstones? I have found that sometimes the wife is listed there. Also, how do I go about finding out who is buried next to my relative? There may be other relatives there.
Thank you

You have placed this person in the Fairview Park Cemetery in St John, Stafford, Kansas. Her burial is actually in the Noel Cemetery in Noel, McDonald, Missouri, and there is a listing on Find a Grave in that cemetery, with a photo of her headstone. Just thought you might like to know. Debbie
