|Bio and Links|
I've been here quite a while now. And I spend more of my time cleaning up other people's messes then anything else. So I think I have the right to say PLEASE read the FAQs, pic uploading guidelines & any other guidelines or instructions floating around here before contributing to this site. And when I say "contribute to this site" that includes adding people, adding pics, requesting pics, posting virtual gifts/notes & also suggesting corrections.|
I've had ppl SAC to try to get me to use iffy dates. If this was a tree I would because you can mark things "about" or "est" or "between". But it's not a tree where you can mark things iffy so I won't. I'd rather leave something blank but for a name then be one of the many who spread false info around the net.
I've had ppl SAC to try to get me to add marriage info when there's no place for it. You can add marriage year but it don't appear on the memorial so why bother?
I've had ppl SAC to try to get me to add a bio or obit w/ no mention of where they got it or date published. This is against the rules. Unless you wrote bio/obit we have to give credit where credit is due &, if possible, note date published. If you don't include info I won't add bio/obit.
I've had ppl SAC to inform me of another site filled w/ headstone pics. Cool. But stealing them from there & posting them here would be against @ least this site's rules if not the other one's too. So I'm not going to do that.
I've had ppl SAC to demand I delete a DC because in their opinion they don't belong here. That's their opinion. That's not FAG's opinion. And FAG owns the site. I will not delete something I spent hours looking for, securing & reuploading. And neither will FAG.
Last but not @ all least I've had ppl SAC to tell me I'm wrong about one thing or another w/ no proof what-so-ever. One person thought people I had linked together as man & wife were actually sibs. So you go to FamilySearch.org, under search type in his name, if born in 1870 then for range you'd put 1865-1875, under residence you'd add state buried in then click "search". I believe the first 3 or so things on the results list all pertained to this couple. In one they were listed as hubby & wife & living w/ I believe his dad. Took me minutes to answer a question this person should've never bothered me with.
Minutes may not seem like much to you but to someone who already does so much between so many sites for free while begging for toilet paper from neighbors in the real world - I don't just nibble I sometimes bite.
Speaking of biting...please read the following FAQ's. If you ask me something I've already answered below - well we're back to biting again. :-0
Q: Are you related to this person?
A: I have a tree here: LaForce & Family Tree. Just like this site - it has a search feature. It is public so you don't have to join to search for & view the deceased. If you do find we're distantly related please don't try to join the tree. A tree's not something you join - it's something someone who knows you in the real world adds/invites you to.
Q: How are you related to this person?
A: Unless it's obvious I couldn't tell you. My tree has a feature that can tell you exactly - like 5th cousins 3 times removed type stuff. But it's a feature you have to pay for & I don't so I don't get to use that feature.
Q: Where did you get your info?
A: I certainly can't afford to travel & personally see the places ancestors have lived. And I don't think I'd pay for a site like Ancestry even if I could afford it. So I get most of my info from Family Search.org & Google - Google search & Google books. A couple of times I've gotten info from cemetery books @ a library. And a few times I got info by physically visiting a cemetery & playing "cemetery census taker". If it's obvious yay! If it's not then we're kind of screwed because I don't keep notes & a dog probably has a better short term memory then I do.
Q: Do you have anymore info?
A: I have a tree, family site, family community & a Cherokee community. Any info I've been given or stumbled across is posted on one of these sites or directly on the memorial itself. All of these sites have search features. If you don't find the info then I don't have it.
Q: Did you take this pic?
A - Unless there's a caption that says "pic courtesy so & so" then yes I did.
If you've got a complaint about one of my contributions please contact FAG. If they've got a problem I'm sure they'll let me know.
PS. About Living People.
If I see a stone & take a pic I upload the pic. I'm not a psychic. I don't know if people are still alive. I don't know if they left no next of kin to make sure their death date's added to their stone. But if they are alive & have a problem with it either me or FAG will be happy to delete it.
Nobody should have a problem with it. When you put a stone in a cemetery you make it public info. However...lots of info is now public info. If you were born before 1940 census info is public info. In some states your birth, marriage, divorce & death info is public info. I believe in all states tax info, which can include your birthday & possible next of kin, is now public info. Same thing for the social security death index - it's in all states. Feel free to go to familysearch.org, which is a free site, & see what info is public info in your state. Also...other grave location sites will post lists & upload pics which include possible living people. And unlike this site, they won't remove people from the lists or delete pics just because someone is living. So just know all this before requesting your info be deleted.
