Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a native of California and moved to East Tennessee in 1997 after I retired. My paternal family line goes back in this area before their was a Tennessee. I am pictured here standing at the grave of my 5th great-grandfather Johann Sebastian Graff, aka John Graves. I have been doing family research for many years. I am a member of both the Union County Historical Society and the Union County Cemeteries Association. At the present time several members of the UCCA are working towards having available through our website, links to all of the information with pictures of the headstones of all those who are buried in Union County and some of the nearby surounding counties. This is an very active ongoing project. Please feel free to email us with pictures, obituaries and any personal information on individuals buried in Union County and we will endevor to have it added to their memorials.

Chuck Swan area
I am working on linking families in Union County from the UCHS's publication I found at the Chuck Swan WMA. Many of my ancestors are buried in the 50+ cemeteries in the area, starting namely with Henry Rice, Tennessee Pioneer and father of the builder of the Rice Grist Mill, which of course, is featured at Norris Dam State Park. Henry and James were my 6th and 5th Great Grandfathers. John Rice Irwin is my 4th cousin, twice removed. Side note: do you have access to a copy of the Rice Grist Mill narrative that is featured in the gift shop at the state park?

Anyway, I wanted to know how things were coming along with adding all the names from the publication to Find A Grave? Is this something else that I can help with? I have sent you some suggestions for my cemetery research, Albright.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Not Forgotten
Browning Cemetery
Leon,
Any way to find out what graves "weren't" removed by TVA concerning the "Browning" cemetery? Would you know of any Browning family members that the information might have been passed down to? I checked with TVA and they didn't keep a record of those not removed:(

W M Turner Cemetery
Thirty names and fortytwo photos have been added to the W M Turner Cemetery. There is a rather large 'chicken fighting ' industry in the neighboring lot. Fear of being shot loomed. I photographed the whole cemetery yet some headstones were not properly cleared of debris…needless to say I was in a hurry. There are several graves marked with fieldstones only…no names. The satellite photo will show the "chicken farm'. Enjoyed!

Mr. Graves we must be related as I am also descended from Johann Sebastian Graff/Graves through Boston Graves. Did you receive my email on Archibald M. Meltabarger? I sent information obtained from his pension file. Nancy Murray

Find A Grave
I duplicated A.M. Meltabarger. I have deleted mine and would like to offer the following information for you to add. It was taken from his pension file obtained at the National Archives. :Died June 21, 1893. Married Barbara Foust July 12, 1849 In Knox County, Tennessee. She filed her widow's pension from "near Graveston, Union County, Tennessee." (Graveston is usually considered to be in Knox County.) He served in the lst Tennessee Infantry companies D and A. They owned "a rolling ridge farm of about 112 acres. Very poorly watered, only one spring at one Sie of it. It is thin land..,.has two dwelling houses and out buildings. The place is not in good state of cultivaytion. The rental value of it would be worth Some fifty dollars per year....I own one horse worth about $60 to $75.00, no cow or cattle nor sheep. I have a few chickens. I have Some two or three dollars coming to me on note and two dollars for pasture. I owe a right smart Doctor bills and the like. I have paid some of the doctors bill for waiting on my said deceased husband and I owe some on it yet. I have no income whatever only the product of said land and I only have a homestead right on it. My children ae all married and I have no one legally bound to support me. " This man gave his all for our freedom and suffered greatly from illnesses occurred as a result of the soldier life then.I hope you are willing to add this information. Nancy Murray
