Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a native of California and moved to East Tennessee in 1997 after I retired. My paternal family line goes back in this area before their was a Tennessee. I am pictured here standing at the grave of my 5th great-grandfather Johann Sebastian Graff, aka John Graves. I have been doing family research for many years. I am a member of both the Union County Historical Society and the Union County Cemeteries Association. At the present time several members of the UCCA are working towards having available through our website, links to all of the information with pictures of the headstones of all those who are buried in Union County and some of the nearby surounding counties. This is an very active ongoing project. Please feel free to email us with pictures, obituaries and any personal information on individuals buried in Union County and we will endevor to have it added to their memorials.

RE: Knowlands
Hi Leon....Irena or Bessie Knowland was my husband's G-Aunt who md Arthur Melville Shermer. I am interested in what info you have on the Knowland line. My husband descends from Joseph born 1816 in VA to Joseph born 1854 in IN who md Sodonia Harris to David Robert born 1886 in KS who md Clara Belle Davis. I have been trying to find the first Joseph's father with proof of the parentage. Any info that you might have would be greatly appreciated. Would you be able to send a GEDCOM thru e-mail? My e-mail is below...

RE: Hale & Shermer Families
Thanks for the information. Do you know why these three children were adopted by the Hale family? I know that the Shermers had quite a few children from what info I have been able to find.

RE: Eli Graves
I looked for a cross reference for Eli Graves, brother of Solomon Graves. # 51 ( top of the page )

http://www.gravesfa.org/gen105.htm

The Eli Graves I am referring to is ref # 514
(Middle of the page and bottom of the page)

I found them on Root's web as well as this site ( Find A Grave).
Very interesting stuff. I had no idea of the German ancestry. Thanks for your help! :)

Johann Sebastian Graff
Hello,

If I have counted right, I am one of the countless many 6th generations of great grandchildren of John Sebastian Graves.

If you have a site to visit with more information about this ancestry, I would be pleased.

For reference,My great great grandfather was Eli Graves born 1849.

Chuck Swan area
I am working on linking families in Union County from the UCHS's publication I found at the Chuck Swan WMA. Many of my ancestors are buried in the 50+ cemeteries in the area, starting namely with Henry Rice, Tennessee Pioneer and father of the builder of the Rice Grist Mill, which of course, is featured at Norris Dam State Park. Henry and James were my 6th and 5th Great Grandfathers. John Rice Irwin is my 4th cousin, twice removed. Side note: do you have access to a copy of the Rice Grist Mill narrative that is featured in the gift shop at the state park?

Anyway, I wanted to know how things were coming along with adding all the names from the publication to Find A Grave? Is this something else that I can help with? I have sent you some suggestions for my cemetery research, Albright.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Not Forgotten
Browning Cemetery
Leon,
Any way to find out what graves "weren't" removed by TVA concerning the "Browning" cemetery? Would you know of any Browning family members that the information might have been passed down to? I checked with TVA and they didn't keep a record of those not removed:(
