I am of Norwegian and Austrian descent. I can trace my Norwegian ancestry back to Christiania/Oslo and Brevik, Norway. Many of my family members are buried at Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago Illinois.

I have been taking pictures of the graves in the older, predominently Scandinavian sections of Mount Olive Cemetery and logging them on this site.

At Mount Olive, the office will look up one grave for free, and charge $10 for every look up after. I would be happy to take any pictures at this cemetery, as long as you can provide the Section/Lot #. Please message me :)

A little history on Mount Olive Cemetery:
Established in 1889, Mount Olive Cemetery was first known as a Scandinavian cemetery. One of the more distinct features of Mount Olive Cemetery is the Archway at the main cemetery entrance. It is one of a few cemeteries to have a bell in the tower that is rung as each interment procession arrives through the Archway.
The old chapel at Mount Olive was constructed in 1889 and was in service until 1960. It has been featured in several history books because of its unique structural design and age. It has also been considered for historical landmark status by the City of Chicago.

Favorite Cemeteries I've Visited: Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA (beautiful!) and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA (for the people buried there and its odd location, hidden among towering high-rises).

Favorite Graves I've Seen in Person: Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, and the Gilbertson Family at Mount Olive (92765528). I love the angel carved into their gravestone.
