Bio and Links
Bio Photo Hello, We have been active in our ancestral research for about fifteen years now. We got started just about a year before my father died. He was doing some research himself and had documented a makeshift tree. Even though his work was incomplete it gave us the initiative to take it and run with it. Several years later we have over 30,000 people in our tree and have visited several cemeteries in the area where we live. After a few thousand headstones photos taken we are now in the process of uploading them to Find A Grave as well as Ancestry. It has been arduous work but very rewarding to us. Unfortunately, the reason we are adding a bio now is because the efforts we have taken to make sure our relatives are remembered by information here and on Ancestry, is, our photos are being taken without our permission and then claimed by others as their own. We started noticing this about a year ago and started putting a small watermark on the photos. This has not stopped people from stealing our work. We would rather not put anything on the photos themselves because we believe it takes away form the aesthetics of the photo, however, it has become necessary. Now it seems as though even having the small watermark is not enough to deter those who would take what does not belong to them without asking or giving credit. So much for the small watermark. Now you will be finding photos we upload will have GLARING marks on them. Sorry about that.

We are not averse to letting people copy these photos, we just ask that credit be given where credit is due. Just ASK. You might be surprised how willing we are to share. With the proper credit given. Unfortunately, the watermarks will remain.

Because we are not able to travel long distances, we ourselves have taken photos from others on this site "WITH PRIOR PERMISSION" and with due credit given. So, we understand the desire to have a copy of your own.

We have also begun to pursue actions against those who steal.

RE: Headstone of Emanuel Christ Sr.
Hi Nancy, Thanks so much for asking - so few people do these days. It is much appreciated!

Emanuel Christ was a 3rd-great granduncle of ours through marriage to his second wife, Anna Maria (Hepler) Schneider. Its fine to use his photo on your tree as indicated.

We usually ask that people place the line "Photo courtesy of Find A Grave Contributor: Law-Miller Roots (#47103448)" into the Description when uploading to Ancestry.

But, yours is a unique way of accomplishing the same thing (to provide the source of the photo) - and is a great idea we hadn't thought of before. We may start doing that with future photos we upload as well.

Take care,
Marilyn

Hello,
I was contacted today by another Find A Grave contributor, who says that the memorial I created for her in the West Midway Cemetery (Find A Grave Memorial# 72671384) should be in the East Midway Cemetery and gave the Find A Grave# 138147760. Since I have worked with you a lot, I wondered if this was true. You have added a memorial stone for her and the person who manages the other memorial added her Obit. Which do you think is correct? Could you check it out and let me know?
Thanks a million.

RE: Giese
Nancy,
My great grandmother was Anna Frieda Sophia Giese Gill. (Memorial# 66149592) She came over at the age of 18, as an indentured servant. Her mother died before she left and father died in 1899. Anna and her family lived in Rostock, Germany. Far north Germany, right on the Baltic Sea.
What part of Germany are you relatives from?

RE: Stout Family Burials in Forest Cemetery
Sure, you're welcome to use the photo. I still remember researching Goldie Stout - what an unfortunate and tragically short life.

Thank you so very much! Very kind & generous of you :)
I see you once in awhile pop up in my Ancestry.com research. One of these days we will have to figure out how we are related, no matter how "diluted"

Hello,
We are well here. Winter (so far) has been kind to us. Just returned from a Caribbean cruise. Was nice to get away. Went w family, and met some nice people.

Thanks for the heads up on Horatio and his wife Nancy.

Take care and Happy Holidays,
Barbara
