|I'm a 67yr. old Wife, Mom, Grandmother, Navy Veteran, and now a new Great-Grandmother. Hot-diggidy-dog! I have over 46 yrs. of experience as a Domestic Engineer. The Lord willing we'll both make it our 50th. My husband & I wish You All Fair Winds and Following Seas. We hope you take to heart the following poem for it says it all. Thank you to all the volunteers out there. Helping us out here who can't travel any more. Your efforts are most appreciated by this family. |
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone
The name & date are chiseled out
On polishd marble stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh in blood in bone
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own
Dear Ancestor the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so
I wonder if you lived and loved
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come to visit you

I don't have a copy of the photo - contact the person who took it.

My comments might seem petty but in my line of work years ago I had to review reports to make sure they were graphically correct.
1. born child I would eliminate the word born
2. To say she never married is not necessary
That is all, the rest is ok. Thanks for asking my opinion. Sorry it took so long to respond.

would you like to see a photo of the general area? Then you can decide if you would like to post it to the memorial page. I will send it to the email address you provided on your member page.

Joe and Marie were my uncle and aunt.

George was a very distant relative, being the grandfather of the wife of my 4th great uncle Nicholas Waite Vaughan. That is quite distant and I would be happy to transfer the memorial to you except I only added the photos. A Gerald Culley did the original memorial. I an sorry to say I do not have any more information on the wording at the bottom of the stone. I am sorry I should have cut the grass or moved it out of the way. I also do not know who is in charge of the cemetery. I am sorry I could not be very helpful to you but wish you a lot of luck in your search.

You're very welcome.

Got the messages OK. Tried to update some of the family FAGs and was frustrated. It'll all work out eventially - maybe it would be best to just delete some of the confused ones -like those with 11 kids. I will have to sort it all out. Have had too many questions lately - coming and going! I have been in the mood to get some of my most direct settled before I'm one of them!
too bad about your computer - have been there - no fun to say the least!
Keep in touch!

Wanted to let you know I did make it to Colfax to photograph the area around the Blackstone family. I put the same photo on the other three (?) family members' memorials, and hope it is what you had in mind. The view in the other direction had some trees in the distant background, but the gravesite adjoining was fairly new, with the cut in the sod still not covered up, so I went with the photo facing east.

It's posted. Let me know if you need anything else from the St. Louis area.
Have a great day and God Bless.

Sorry but I don't live in that state anymore. You will have to request a photo thru the memorial.
