I love genealogy. I contribute to Findagrave as a way to pay back for all the help that I have found on-line while doing my genealogy. I prefer to have a picture for each memorial that I create but it is not always possible. |
If you want to use my pictures for genealogical purposes, feel free to do so - though it would be nice if you put its FindaGrave memorial number, that way more people will learn about FindaGrave. If you want the clear, full sized original picture, contact me and I will share it via e-mail with you if I still have it on my computer.
Please be kind when you find a mistake, I am human and will make them.
While most of my pictures were taken in Indiana, I no longer reside in that state so I am unable to search "local" Indiana tombstones.

|J A Harrell||Re: Alfred B Stephens MD|
Greetings- I sent you a message back in October 2015 asking if you would consider transferring Great Great Grandpa Stephens memorial to me. to date I have not received a reply. I would like to renew my request. There are two memorial to him on Find A Grave. Mine and yours. Mine was created in 2004 which predates yours by approximately 9 years. I am willing to delete mine if you will transfer management of your memorial to me. I will then add my info to your memorial.

Would you consider transferring Memorial #105795966 to me? Alfred is my Great Great Grandfather. He is the father of Laura Ellen (Stephens) Speece who is the mother of Wayman Nihl Speece who is the father or Nihla Mae (Speece) Harrell who is my mother.

I was wondering if you would allow me to make some edits and add pictures to the Stephens Family in Star City, IN.
Thank you in advance,
P.S. I asked another person and they said yes, but then realized that your name was also on some of the Stephens involved!!!
You are quite welcome! There are a lot of members who have been on Find A Grave for a long time, and don't know about it. Especially folks who don't have a lot of memorials and who don't get a lot of edit requests... then they aren't as likely to have known about these changes.
The changes have been in place for close to a year now, I think... maybe not quite a year.
Anyway, now you know about them. :)
Like I mentioned, the pain about it is that you have to make a point to check your profile page at least once a week to see if there are any edits waiting for you. When there are edits waiting, you will see a number next to the word Edits on the Edits tab. That number represents how many edits are awaiting your approval.
So, if you see "Edits (3)" that means you have three edits waiting for you to review and approve or decline.
Have a good week!

Not all edits are sent by email anymore.
Find A Grave developed a new method for sending edits. The downside to it is that the receiver (you, in this case) needs to login to their Find A Grave account every week or so and go to your profile page, then look in the upper right corner where you will see three tabs.
One of the tabs is "Edits"
Click on that tab and you will see all of the edits that were sent to you that are awaiting your approval.
You need to login to see them, and there is no notification that you have edits awaiting your approval. You need to manually go in and look to see if there are any waiting. There is no email, no notification. You need to check.
If, after 21 days have passed, you did not login to check if there are edits there, then the edits automatically are sent to Find A Grave administrators who simply approve the edit.
However, that means the person who sent the edit has to wait 21 days for the edit to be approved, and that is not very good.
In the case of the edit I sent to you, 21 days passed since I sent you the edit, but you did not review it or approve it, so after 21 days of waiting there, it was sent to Find A Grave administrators who approved it without your input.
You need to periodically check your profile page to see if edits are waiting for you. They will not come in email. The only kinds of edits that you will see anymore that come in email will be ones where the person is sending you a narrative (like an obit) or if they need to communicate with you narratively.
Simple edits like changes to the simple fields (name, birth/death dates and locations, relationship links, etc) will come in the new edit system that requires that you login to your profile page to see them waiting for your approval.
When you see them waiting for you, all you need to do is scroll down a little and there will be a button that says something like "Apply edits". You click that and the edits will be applied without you having to manually make the changes.
This new process makes applying edits a breeze, but if you don't know where to look for them waiting for you, then it causes the sender to wait 21 days for the edit to be auto-accepted by the system.

Thanks for the great ideas. My cousins and I have secured a bronze plaque for our Grandparents Rosa and Johan Wibbels since those pics where taken, so their information is legible for future generations who go to the burial site. I promised my Grandmothers cousin I would (before she passed). Appriciate all you have done in the cemetery. Keep up the good work!!!
