RE: Joseph Bernard Johnson
The local newspaper, the Calaveras Enterprise, might have archives of the 2003 papers and might be willing to look up obituaries for the week he died.
The information in my death index came from the Angels Memorial Chapel mortuary book # 16, page 142.

If there are other grave markers in the vicinity with the same surname, I photograph them as well. I did not see any other Smith's near Vera's grave (just me!)...

RE: Heuer Monument
I'm glad you're pleased. The part of the marker that mentions the four young children refers to her as A. M. Heuer. Anna Maria is the most common female name with these early Gemans, and their call name was their middle name, or if they had three or more given names they usually go by the last one closest to their surname [Hope that makes sense.] So it makes sense that she would have gone by Mary.

Heuer Monument
Anna Maria Heuer's name isn't inscribed on the monument, but it's not uncommon for the surviving spouse not to be mentioned on grave markers though. You'll see I've added four other children to the couple. Also, Johan H. Wernsing (1855-1856) is mentioned on the family's monument. Someone else has made a memorial for him already, but I went ahead and added pictures.

He does have a marker. I won't be able to upload the picture until tomorrow. I'll let you know when I do.
