Hello To All...Finding our ancestors has become a passion in our lives and we truely enjoy it. It all started about a 4 yrs ago when my husband and I realized we hardly knew anything about our family history. We were soon on a conquest.... We also soon found out how important it is to have people out there who can help us find our families stones that we ourselves are unable to go visit and see. Thank all of you for what you do! Becoming a photo voluteer is our way of helping others as much as they have helped us. My husband and I, along with our beloved little dog Sassy, truely enjoy galavanting around the countrysides visiting cemeteries and finding stones of our loved ones and adding to this wonderful site. We try and do the best we can to fullfill all and any photo requests for Mahaska County, Iowa and have a great time doing it! At the same time we have tried to make sure that there are pictures and maps of all listed cemeteries for Mahaska County along with others we visit in other counties. Our closest immediate family lines are Welch, Knupp, Knedler, Rains, Saylor,Eakins, Brown, DeWitt and Ellis. We do most of our exploring in Southeastern Iowa and Northern Missouri. We do add "non" family names from time to time that have not already been posted, so that people can more easily find their relatives. I am more than willing to add any personal info or link relatives for these memorials if they are not your direct relative within the 4 generations per the find a grave guidelines. I firmly believe in following the rules set by find a grave and do my best to comply to them for transferring memorials. So...duplicating an entry to add your own information or adding biographical information in the flower sections (which is a no-no!) will not be necessary!!Please see the Find A Grave guidelines for this type of activity!!! If you want multiple monuments photographed, please take the time to create a memorial for each person rather than attach a message to one request asking for multiple photos or "everyone else in that cemetery with the same surname." Its easier "not to miss" names that way and saves on gas! I also give permission for any of my pictures to be used by anyone. Good Luck To All Of You! Sharon | |

 | Michael West I linked mother & father to Michael as requested. If you would like me to transfer the memorial to you, I would be happy to. I do not have a vested interest in this memorial. I just happened to take a picture of the headstone when I was visiting other graves in the cemetery.

 | RE: Buckles family Sharon, I was very happy tp be able to help. I have a ? Is there a BABY FERN 1897 that might be a Buckles or Baxter? Her stone is by Vera. Would love to be able to add her & be able to link to family. Luella | | | B.J. Nelson
 | Thomas Gardner There is no marker for Thomas Gardner. I will have to check with the cemetery when they are open and find out when he was interred. I was just at the library but didn't have his info with me. I will try to go back soon but it could be two weeks before I get there. I checked the Longmont Ledger on line and his name is not listed. The old Daily Times Call is not on line but the library has an indexes based on prior to 1977 and 1978 to present. | | | Rhonda Brown
 | RE: Wilma Rains Whitaker You are more than welcome. I have fond memories of Uncle Ern and a favorite story as well. Ethel was my grandfather's half sister. | | | Rhonda Brown
 | Wilma RAINS McAtee I inserted the photo and some info. I have some more but can not find exact day of death right now. Her brother Claude passed away a little over a year ago. Feel free to contact me for further info. | | | Jane Denny
 | photo requests Sharon,
Thank you so very much for the Briggs' gravestone photos in Forest Cem! I regret that I overlooked a reply and my note is so very tardy. Your photos are very special to me. You also took the time to photograph the plot, provide info on Mrs. Briggs' stone inscription, and report that only two stones are in the plot. Therefore, there must be no stone to mark the burial of the Reverend Briggs. From a review of census entries 1850-1870, I believe Mrs. Briggs to be approx four years younger than her husband. So, possibly her stone might read born 1821, as you suggest, or maybe 1824 or 1826? Her stone is indeed in sad condition but it is there!
Again, I thank you,
Sincerely, Jane D.

 | Ellis connection Dear Sharon-I am Gwyn Roberts, the granddaughter of Madge Grace Roberts, the twin sister of Maud Grace Ellis.I have such wonderful memories of my Aunt Maud, Uncle Carl,my Dad John Roberts' cousins Robert and Ronald, the pig farm and seeing day old baby piglets. I think Aunt Maud must have passed only a year or so after we last visited there. It was wonderful to read about Philip Grace in such completeness-I had heard some stories but not in such detail. Thank you.My dad is still around-I will show him the Philip Grace info. Thank you again for whoever was able to find that out. Gwyn Murray | | | Brian J. Ensley
 | RE: Blough Cemetery The confusion comes into play with the fact that there are 8 different Blough Cemeteries in Somerset County and one in Cambria County. I've transcribed and documented them all. What happens is, people who aren't as well-versed on the different cemeteries are adding memorials in the wrong cemeteries, and one of the Blough Cemeteries on this site seems to be a "catch-all" for anyone "Blough." I've tried to contact memorial owners and offer suggestions as to the correct cemeteries, but I rarely get any cooperation.
Jacob is actually in the Blough Cemetery in Quemahoning Twp., Somerset County located above the Quemahoning Dam. This is an extremely hard cemetery to find. It's located on the side of a wooded mountain with no roads nearby. When I documented it, I photographed all of the existing stones. Since it was such a pain to find, I didn't want to have to go back again for photos.
If you ever have any questions about the various Blough Cemeteries, just let me know. Hope that helps!

 | Teuntje Visser #42561001 I have added obituary for her. Not real good if better one comes along we can delete it | | | Beegee57
 | Amanda Barnett Sorry I have the wrong photo for her. It seems that I accidentally forgot to take hers when I photographed the cemetery. Maybe I can stop and get it next summer when I'm down that way again. You can request a photo for her and then I can just get it when I print out lists for the cemeteries in the area.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I try hard to make the pages I do accurate. BeckyAdded by Beegee57 on Feb 20, 2013 7:20 PM | | | | [View all messages...] |
