Welcome - |
We are doing a holy service by remembering the dead, and preserving history.
I think we all have a piece of the puzzle and if everyone contributes, questions will be answered.
This a wonderful site for remembering people. Peoples lives are fascinating and they deserve to be remembered and documented.
Please remember we are not just entering names or stones, but real people. Please ask yourself if your memorial is search-able. All memorials should have last names. Women who never marry, and children don't have maiden names. There is no maiden name unless the name changes. Also please do not use ().
If a last name is not known or unreadble - please use UNKNOWN not ? - the ?? are not searchable -- thank you
Please do NOT create duplicates.
If you notice any mistakes, please let me know, and I will be happy to fix them. Nobody is perfect, we are all fallible human beings mostly doing the best we can at the moment.
We are merely stewards of 'our' memorials - we manage them and are entrusted with their care and maintenance, but we do not technically 'own' them.
Please read the FAQs (frequently asked questions). Thanks, and please try to resolved unknown burials ASAP.
Please free to use any of my photos with appropriate citations. Will also add updates, -the more info, the better. I don't have a policy about transfers - ask and we can work it out.
"A cemetery is a history of people - a perpetual record of yesterday and sanctuary of peace and quiet today. A cemetery exists because every life is worth loving and remembering - always." (author unknown)

I saw that you left a message for my friend, Alice LaRue, pointing out that she made some duplicate memorials. I just wanted to let you know that Alice has not been online for about a year now, so it is unlikely that you will get a response from her.
I have no idea what has happened to her, as she has not responded either through this site or to personal e-mails in over a year. I'm thinking that she has either lost computer capabilities to be online or has passed away. Sadly, I fear it is the latter.
You seem well-versed on the workings of Find-A-Grave. May I suggest that you put edits through on the memorials that you feel need corrections, and after a certain time frame, Find-A-Grave will complete the edits as you have requested.
Since many of her memorials are filled with good information and family links, perhaps it is best if the duplicate memorials are merged rather than deleted, as she has done so much research and work.

Thanks so much for the photo of their headstone.
|familyseeker||Photo for my mother's headstone|
I am writing to thank you for your hard work however you have an incorrect photo of my mother's grave - her name is Dorothy M. Smith Distel - She was born in 1920 and died 2005.
The pic you have is of another Dorothy Distel.
Can you please remove the photo. Thank you.
|Cheryl Harding||RE: Nevermind|
Just re-read the 1900 census for Kingston on Levi W. and Honor (listed as Hannah) (Banner) Metcalf. It shows her as the mother of 4, 1 living. I'm missing someone in my tree. Just curious is there was another Metcalf child around their headstone.
|Cheryl Harding||RE: Nevermind|
I deleted the duplicate listing for Walter K. Powell. Did you find one for Henry Metcalf? I'm also curious if there are any Metcalf children with him. The 1900 census lists his wife as the mother of 4 children but only 2 living so I'm trying to figure out the truth to the census. I cannot locate the other two.
|Julie & Tom York||Oosterhouts in New York|
Yes, there certainly ARE a lot of Oosterhouts, and with lots of different spellings! I've been researching my line with quite a bit of depth... Let me know if you need help with the maze!
|Julie & Tom York||Henry Oosterhout|
Donna, did you read what it says on the memorials? I explained why I have 2 memorials for him at this time. There are no records that could tell us for sure at this point, and I am in the process of trying to find the best information I can get. Until I have that, I am going to leave the earlier memorial as well, with the explanation given. I will delete one when I feel I have as much data as we're going to get. You didn't explain what your connection to Henry is and why you're asking. Are you an Oosterhout ancestor?
