I've been a ROOTS lady for about 38 years and have always enjoyed helping others find their roots also. I transcribed the early Jasper County, Texas Marriage Records back in the 80's and donated them to the Southeast Texas Genealogical & Historical Society and was their editor for "Yellowed Pages" for a few years until family health issues stepped in the way.

My first "online" adventure was learning how to hand code html when I took the responsibility for 10 southeast Texas counties under the TXGenWeb Project and didn't have a clue about coding websites. It took some fast learning.

About 10 years ago I started hosting tombstone photos online and had about 14,000 back when hosting space was pretty expensive. After my Mom became ill and needed extensive care, my husband and I cared for her at our home for three years and I closed the hosting account during that time frame.

It's great to see the effort behind Find-A-Grave and I'm pleased to see there are so many "gravers" around the country. The "linking" system is wonderful for connecting families when properly used.

Thank God for computers, the internet & and digital cameras !! From spending hours & hours in courthouses, cemeteries & libraries to transcribing census records & visiting cemeteries in my jammies. GenLife is wonderful & rewarding.

Today I visited yesterday,
And walked among the graves
Of family and friends from long ago,
Whose memory had begun to fade.
The graves were unattended,
As were my thoughts of them.
When a vision of the ages past,
Brought back my sense of kin.
The vision showed the church lawn,
On a crisp summer day.
The table spread, the food prepared,
And friends who would break bread.
All my relatives were there- Both young and old........
Grandma and I walked hand and hand,
Sharing stories never told.
We laughed and cried and shared our thoughts.
And I found the friend I thought I'd lost.
As the sun began to fade...
The church bell rang out clear.
Grandma and the others slowly disappeared...
Today I visited yesterday,
And now the memory is strong -
Of the family from which I came AND NOW BELONG...

"Nothing is ended until it is forgotten".

Hi, This correction concerns Dorothy L. Hoyt Hooks (Find A Grave Memorial# 168088822. I wanted to send some attachments to help prove my claim but I don't think I can do it on this format. Any ideas? You could send me an e-mail and I would just reply to.....unless it made you feel uncomfortable.

Thanks, Scott

Good Morning, you sent the parents of Samatha Pate Isom, wife of George F. Isom. I have that they married 22 Mar 1928 in Sabine Co., TX (Bk F 211-G and she married as Samantha Pate. So do you know of the first marriage? You got the parents from the death certificate, correct? Is the DC on Ancestry or did you find it in some other place? Thanks for you info, but would like to know any other info you might have. Thanks, Bobbye Varner

RE: Turners in Brookeland
I think I have the Turner's fixed...I just put your notes on mine and added a HTML link to yours. This is probably the best we can do. Let me know if you think this is ok. Thanks. Kay

Turners in Brookeland
Hi Barbara...These two graves were on J. B. Sanders index from the early 1960 as being buried in Brookeland...wonder if they moved them or if that was incorrect...Anyway, Since Tracey made the memorials and I can't delete them, I moved them to Evergreen and added links and info to them. Could you add your pics to them? Kay ...Great to hear from you! Thanks for the correction! Kay

FAG and Friends
It's great how we run into so many friends here. I've seen that you are good friends with Bettie and she sends you notes. I've known her all my life as we went through school together and are still friends today. I'm in Newton and she isn't here anymore but she's not far. She maintains all our old classmates who have passed on. Feel free to ask her about me so you will know I'm not trying to make more work for you but only wanting to figure out why your not getting the connections I send. The Dickerson clan is huge in this area and there are many Gill's also. If I can help with any of the Dickerson family, I will be happy to do so. I have all the info on my family tree. I was married into that family for 12 years and have two daughters who are Dickerson's.

Gill - Dickerson
The Gill and Dickerson family you have entered in Woods Cemetery are my ex husband's family and so they are related to my daughters. Addie and Punky Gill, Mary and Edmond C. Dickerson are their great grandparents. Also, Addie and Punky had one child who died as a baby - Betty Rae. I've tried 2 or 3 times to get her connected to them and am at a loss as to why you don't seem to receive the requests. I am familiar with your work and know you do such nice data and photos. I'm just thinking you are not receiving all the requests. Also, when you connected Everett Gill's mom, you should have also had one showing his dad. I first tried a couple of years ago and then the last week or two I send new ones. I see you connected Everett's mom and added his nickname but no father or baby. I've also sent Addie Dickerson Gill's connections to Betty Rae and her parents a couple of years ago. If you can let me know a better way or if you received them or just what I can do, I'm happy to submit the data in manner that works best for you. I appreciate all the Find A Grave work and photos you do.

Aloha and mahalo from Hawaii...
I am grateful for the photo you posted of my father-in-laws grave (Leovia F Rodgers). Now that my mother-in-law passed in 2009, I am hoping you can provide a photo of her gravestone as well, if indeed one has been installed. Her name is Chispa M Rodgers and her ashes are interred next to her husband Leovia Rodgers.

Thank you in advance,
Dinah Rodgers
