Bio Photo Hi,

I am a retired veteran and genealogist. I work on Fort Knox so I have opportunities to visit some cemeteries on post and in Hardin County, KY.

If you would like to have a memorial transferred to you, please let me know by using the Edit tab and sending me a note.

Please feel free to use any of my photographs for your personal use. I go to cemeteries and take headstone pictures so their descendents can find them. If you use my photographs and post them on any for-profit web sites (ex,, etc), please give me the appropriate credit.

RE: Fort Knox cemeteries
Thank you. I was hoping that Fort Knox might have changed policies over the years and allowed more visiting days. I have been to Pleasant View, both east and west, several times and I know where my relative John Kendall is buried. You have photographed his stone. I am wondering who repaired John's tombstone and when; it was still intact in 1998. Would like to thank them.

Also, I am curious about the placement and condition of the dedication stone and bronze plaque (for Pleasant View Baptist Church) which is supposed to be in Pleasant View Cemetery West where the church was located. When I was there on Memorial Day 1998, it was still on the skid.

My cousin is planning to drive up from Georgia and meet me there at Fort Knox this May. Want to be sure her trip will be worth it.

RE: John Elliott

Yes and yes. You already have Amanda linked to her father, but I just wanted notated in the bio section that her mother was Rachel Vittitow (since we don't know where she's buried to link them).

Thanks again for all your help.

RE: Amanda Carter

Yes! That's her. Her father is buried in Riverview with his second wife. Not sure where Rachel was buried. Her name was spelled Vittitow, though. That's how that line (including my grandmother) spelled it.

RE: Amanda Carter

That's up to you. My grandmother was one of the (MANY) Vittitows that were out of the New Haven area. I really appreciate your help! You can keep if you just notate about her mother.

Fort Knox cemeteries
Can you tell me if Memorial Day is still the only day that the general public can visit cemeteries on Fort Knox? Specifically, the ones way back in the old firing ranges, like Pleasant View.
And, is it the traditional May 31st? Or the scheduled Monday holiday (May 30, 2016)?
Thank you,
Betty L. Warren

Oliver Church, Memorial# 91930496
I'm curious where the June 13 birthday and month came from. This info' doesn't appear in the records of Oliver C born 1780 that I've seen.

The year of 1780 is very likely.

I'm also wondering why the 'Captain' title. He may have been a captain briefly during the rebellion of 1837, but in war times nearly all males over the age of 18 and up to 60 were required to join the militia. Several Oliver Church's appear as privates or ensigns in rolls of the 1812 war. His mother did make an 1822 petition where she called him 'Captain' and if I recall correctly she also referred to her husband Oliver born circa 1756 as 'Captain'. I vaguely remember there is a militia roll somewhere, for the 1812 war that shows an Oliver aged 60 as a militia captain, but this Oliver 1756 is mainly known as a Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rangers and earlier as Ensign in the Royal Yorkers during the 1776 war.

Thanks for any clues or corrections.
