As a person with a long time interest in family history & genealogy, I am building on information researched by previous generations. |
In the event I have entered a duplicate page, please know that it's only because I might have good genealogical information, and I will be glad to transfer to the page to the earliest contributor.
To any who take time to read my memorial pages, please know I appreciate your interest. To any who leave a note, you should know how very touched I am with your caring gesture. I am learning that "Cemetery searchers" are very special people and I wish all good luck in our unending quest.
"Let the record be made of the men and things of today, lest they pass out of memory tomorrow and are lost. Then perpetuate them not upon wood or stone that crumble to dust, but upon paper, chronicled in picture and in words that endure forever." – Kirkland

|Carolyn Mahaffey||Whatley Family Cemetery, Troup Co, Georgia|
Thank you and bless you for posting photos and information from this very old cemetery. My childrens' father died at age 36 and we knew nothing of their Whatley lineage. We have researched for years and finally this week visited several cemeteries, including this one in Troup County. To our horror, the cemetery is badly overgrown and has been brutally vandalized. Their line is from the older Archie, through Ornan Houston. Ornan's grave has been destroyed, along with his wife's. They would not be recognizable without your photographs. What a disgrace for a man who helped establish the county and the city of LaGrange. Does anyone have ideas about how we could fund a restoration? These graves represent so much history. Our Archie was born in 1768 and was the second white settler! Again,so many thanks to you. Atlantac@bellsouth.net

;-) My mother and I share 'cindiquilts'
Just curious, are related in anyway to 'jwb770seagrove' on ancestry?
|Chris Russo||RE: Word Family|
Ahhh. The Colquitts - another great GA family. I noticed the graves when I visited Bowdon Cemetery.
|Chris Russo||RE: Mary Baughn Word|
I would be honored to take them over. Thank you.
How are you related to the Word family?
|Chris Russo||RE: Mary Baughn Word|
Yes I am. Mary & BC Word were my 3x great-grandparents.
Mary's parents was Joseph A Baughn (1809-1880) & Frances Gilbert (1810-1860)
BC Word's parents were John Bryson Word (1796-1882) & Amelia 'Milly' Sparks (1803-1868)
Both JB & Amelia Word are buried behind their house in Victory, Carroll County, GA
Their memorials are on Find-A-Grave, although the pictures that are included of them may not be accurate. The date of the family photo is not known. Milly was certainly dead when this photo was taken - and most likely, so was JB.
Thank you for creating the memorials.
