Who would hold hostage - under the fictive pretense of copyright - the photo of a grave stone?
I have not changed my opinion on copyright, but for those of you who feel strongly about protecting your copyright...
Have you noticed that Ancestry is posting ALL of your copyright-protected photos on their profit-driven website?
Why isn't that a violation of your copyright?

FINDAGRAVE PEEVES - MEMBERS WHO:
• Post photocopies of documents to a memorial.
• Submit a suggestion that ONLY requests that I add or remove a period after a middle initial.
• Create a memorial for a living person.
• Hide their email address and turn off messages - then argue about updates.
• Would rather cut off a finger than delete a duplicate memorial.
• Request a photo, when the memorial clearly states "NO HEADSTONE".
• Post 1 photo, which shows only 1/3 of the headstone.
• Don't understand the historical context of "maiden name".
• Think that copyright law requires you to post a blood-curdling threat against would-be violators.
• Create 175,000 memorials and then complain about "impatient" suggesters.
• Suggest a correction by creating a "correct" duplicate memorial.
VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY
As of Oct 2015, I have photographed every visible headstone in this cemetery - all have been posted.
That's over 6,800 headstones.
With that many photographs, they can't all be "great".
If you would like me to take a more thoughtful photograph - better lighting, background, grass trimmed away, etc - feel free to ask.
I have researched every internment through 31 Dec 2013. I have compiled three books, which list all of these burials and include selected biographical sketches and cross-reference lists:
The Muffled Drum (Civil War) 2013
The Ghostly Bugles (Indian Wars thru WWI) 2014
The Third Volley (WWII to 2013) May 2016
MILITARY RANK ON FINDAGRAVE
For context, see the message I received on 8 Jan 2015, from an account holder who believes "military rank is meaningless", military service should "forgotten", and that you must die in a war to have rank applied to your memorial.
Following military customs and courtesies, men and women who died while in service should have their rank applied to their memorial page as a prefix.
Following military customs and courtesies, and federal law; men and women who RETIRED from the military are also authorized to "take their rank with them" after their service. Their rank should also be applied to their memorial page as a prefix.
RETIRED could mean a 20-30+ year career of honorable service, or it could mean a much shorter service period that ended in a medical retirement - eg, a Private who suffered a severe combat wound before serving even a year.
Of course, if the deceased veteran had expressed another preference, then it should be honored.
~| MEMORIES |~
Oft I remember those I have known
In other days, to whom my heart was lead
As by a magnet, and who are not dead,
But absent, and their memories overgrown.
With other thoughts and troubles of my own,
As graves with grasses are, and at their head
The stone with moss and lichens so o'er spread,
Nothing is legible but the name alone.
And is it so with them? After long years.
Do they remember me in the same way,
And is the memory pleasant as to me?
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I've removed the obituary images for John and Irene Gardner. They were recently provided by Mike Gallagher who spent time at the library to look them up, print, and add a nice backing to them. Thank you for transferring the text to the bio section.

Thank you, I have added my father-in-law's military information. :)
I think it is very likely that he and your father could have crossed paths at some time along the line! I'll have to pull together some information of where he was and when, to see if any of it sounds familiar to you from your father's stories... stay tuned!

Hello :) Thank you for all the great work you do on Find a Grave, it is truly appreciated!!
I was wondering if you would be willing to remove the temporary grave marker photos from the memorials for Donald & Marianne Gibbs? I have been out to the cemetery and photographed their permanent markers, now that they have been placed.
Don's memorial is #158715136 & Marianne's is #148804331 Thank you! :)

Thank you so much for transferring Jerry's memorial and so promptly too.

I'm pleased to know that you can use the information I offered. I only now realize that the children show up if they have their own memorials. Strange about my email to you being returned. I don't think that should have happened. I really admire the effort you give to the Find a Grave virtual cemetery. I'm sort of bowing out, I fear. I must concentrate on the many 3 ring binders I have near this desk, so that my descendants will have material in the best order and up to date.
Thanks for what you do. Donna Cross aka dbelle

Thank you very much for transferring my Miller family members to me!
|dbelle||Affa Ladd #82761236|
Your memorial for Affa Isabelle Palmateer Ladd has only Archie listed under children. There were four children. Here are the children in age order:
Jessie/Jessey born 12/11/1876 died 11/5/1892
her memorial is #32791154
Mary Mable born 10/3/1879 died 9/30/1908
Archibald Carlisle born 3/18/1886 died 6/15/1968
his memorial is #102690661
Gladness S b. 4/6/1894 d 1/26/1916 (my g-mother) her memorial is #18001998
I'm not requesting a transfer of Affa's memorial as I am nearly 82 and have less steam than I once had. I need to spend my time better organizing all the family history I've gathered, so that a descendant might appreciate. I have 15 3 ring binders full.
I initially wrote out quite an email, which was returned. Have you changed your email address?

|Debi Thoma||Transfer Request|
I would like to know if you would kindly transfer Memorial# 151088123 for Joseph S. Humphrey whom is a relative on my dad's mother's side of the family. I also have photos of Catherine & Joseph, but they are currently in my storage unit. I will post them once I get moved again and can get my stuff out of storage.
|Betty (South) Young||RE: Joseph South in Waupaca #60953363|
I checked Joseph South's Memorial again on "Find A Grave" and it indicates that he is Buried in Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery in Becker County, Minnesota. That's all I have to go by is what it says there-as I have no other information on his Burial.
Thanks for your Help.
