Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired businessman who enjoys genealogy as a hobby. I find that genealogy and "Find a grave" go hand in hand and its easy to do both at the same time and both are very rewarding. In adding Memorials for those in my family I have added memorials for many non-relatives in hope that it will help others as others have helped me. If I've submitted a relative of yours and you would like it transferred to you, just ask. I live in the Omaha metro area and thats where most of my photos were taken.Researching Bender, Ausdemore,Hittner, German,Ternus, Bockholt, Hatzenbuehler, Kramer, Wickelman and many others. Most of My family came from Germany in the Mid 1800s and settled in the North Eastern Nebraska German farming comunities and spread from there. In my research if I run across a grave of someone in the Military that is Killed in Action they get special attention and i try to find out as much as i can about them and put it on the Memorial. We owe it to these Heros and they should not be forgotten.I authorize anyone to use my photos for any reason."Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." ~~~Princess Diana

RE: Payne
OK, I've been looking through some of my records and I found an obit for James Lewis Payne, 19 years old with his picture. He is the one that died in the plane with his crew.

I have a list of other men, from the Bridgeport area, that lost their lives in war.

Let me know what I can help with, I have been through all of the Bridgeport Newspapers from 1900 and working on 1952.

James Leonard Payne also died in the line of duty. James died in the battle fields of St. Mihiel in France - September 15, 1918.

Anyway let me know how I can help.

Eldred Seddon.
Thank you for details about the sinking of Eldred's ship with the loss of Eldred and so many others. I always appreciate receiving more information for our military heros.

RE: Edwin Phinney
Hi Loren,
I was a child in the 1950s when I heard the story so may have misremembered something. As I recall it, while serving in the Pacific Theatre, his ship was hit (and I thought was sunk), but he escaped with an injured left hand and was taken aboard a hospital ship. The hospital ship was torpedoed by the Japanese and sunk but again he escaped. He said a lot of injured didn't escape that sinking. Served the rest of the war on another destroyer in the Pacific. His mother gave a picture of his ship somewhere but can't find it now. That ship was laid down in abt. 1943 and was scrapped in the 1960s or 1970s so I know it was his 2nd ship.
