Hello! I'm a graver, an artist, baseball entusiast, and an active participator of American Civil War living history presentations.
Find-A-Grave is an excellent resource for determining one's heritage, family tree, and genealogy. Sometimes the smallest thread can lead to a successful path in defining someone's lineage instead of a dead end. (pun intended)

Serving in the Civil War, he died of a shoulder wound. I believe his body, & others, were moved to Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholsville, KY. Due to the loss of military records, they were buried in an unmarked grave. I saw the records showing a few of the names with the same military unit as John F. He never married.
According to their son, John Fairfield White's war records, Moses & Olive were poor farmers living on a scarce income to the point of charity. The family moved from Maine in 1850 and settled in Mercer Co, IL. John F. White, son of Jefferson White, stated that they lived 1 mile east of Aledo, IL. on a place known as the Graham Farm. They lived there until after the war. It seems that they moved around a great deal trying to make some kind of living & had a hard time doing so. John Fairfield sent money home to help support his parents. In February 1872, they moved to Siam, Taylor Co, IA; In Jun 1879, moved to Maple City, Cowley Co, KS; In Feb.1882, moved to Ami, Jewel Co, KS; In Oct.1883, moved to Maryville, Nodaway Co, MO; In Sep. 1884, moved to Bedford, IA; In May 1885, moved to Mercer Co, IL to live with relatives; On 9 Apr. 1886, returned to Bedford, Jackson Twp, Taylor Co, IA to live with their daughter Abigail & her family.
John Fairfield White was born 26 Dec 1839 in Belgrade, Kennebec, Maine and died 2 May 1862 OH.
He had a brother who was killed at Kenasaw Mountain and died in Resaca, Georgia; a brother, Moses Jr. is buried in Chattanooga, Tennessee National Cemetery; a brother who survived the Civil War; a brother who served in the Civil War and died in Minnesota, a brother who served. This only left one son at home.
John's father, Moses was given money to go to Ohio before John died and never saw any of his sons again. It was no wonder that Moses and Olive were so poor that they had to live the rest of their lives with one of their 2 daughters.
John deserves to be home again, thank you K. Guy for putting John back with his parents.

I am related to this person and was under the impression that he was one that was transferred to Kentucky and buried with no identification. I would like to make this change if possible. His parents are my great great grandparents.
