Bio Photo Northwest Indiana mother of 3... Dedicated to preserving the memory and posterity of our ancestors, and I also enjoy learning about myself from the past, and also helping others to connect the dots as well.

I am particularly interested in advocating for more respectable conditions for Oak Hill cemetery in Hammond, IN. My interest is personal as my family is buried on this historic, hallowed grounds. For more info:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oak-Hill-Cemetery-Restoration-Project/173079029442809

* All existing headstones in the ground for Oak Hill have already been photographed and Memorials created, unless they have passed after 2014.

If you are local and are interested in donating to Oak Hill, consider donating flowers, perrennials, work gloves, Menards gift cards, or even your time pulling weeds and helping to maintain the improvements to the grounds.

The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail will help replace broken or worn headstones for Civil War Veterans and their wives. The organization will also help provide GAR Medallions, QR codes, and Special Markers for Wounded Veterans. Each Special Marker cost approximately $250.00 and each Medallion is roughly $10.00 and also comes with a fresh American Flag. These could not be possible without donations from the public.

South Shore Promotions Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization affiliated with the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority.

I will gladly take photos at St. Mary's and Maplewood Cemeteries in Crown Point, and will attempt to fulfill other requests on other cemetery adventures. I thank you all for your time!

RE: Flickinger family info
Don't know how much help I can be. Two of my husband's Mickle ggg uncles married Flickinger women. When I was researching those lines many years ago I made a trip to Illinois with another family member to look for Mickle info and gathered a bit on the Flickingers from a family history. And when taking photos of Mickle stones I took some of those as well. Only kept some info on Barbara and Margaret and that is online.

I love to read the old newspapers at the Library of Congress website. Today, I found a little article about the "brillant" nuptials of Clair Mont Stephens and Kathryn Rhoads in the Lake County Times (Hammond, IN) of 12/9/1916. It sounds like it was a lovely affair. I thought you might like to see it.

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
I am a member of the SUVCW in Porter Co,Indiana
George Streeter was probably the last Civil War
Veteran to be buried in St. Joseph Co,Indiana. If
he is, the local SUVCW Post should place a special
plaque at his grave site.

Hi Kara,

I just sent you some corrections and saw that I had made an error to the death date of Laura C Lewis. The year should be 1989 as you had.

Many thanks for your work.

Regards,
Betty Frey

RE: Oak Hill edits
Not a problem. I've hit so many dead ends with my own genealogy that I decided to look up and hopefully update some of the current memorials at Oak Hill.

I don't know why the cemetery has such a special place in my heart...I don't have any "blood" buried there, just through marriage. Maybe it's seeing how far it has come since my first trip.

I hope these updates don't peeve anyone off...but I just think the more information out there, the better it is for not only the cemetery but for families looking for loved ones.

All my best to you and your family....
Bev

obie Eagan
OK I found Obie Eagan I didn't enter that memorial I entered Elinor and there are no duplicate entries for her.

I also have relatives buried in Oak Hills and am very happy about any improvements.

Thanks

RE: Cemetery obits
I have searched but don't find that I have or that anyone has made an entry for Obie Egan Please check your records and I do check before entering the only time a check doesn't work is when someone enters a person before they are deceased and leaves out the date of death which per Find A Grave standards should not be done. In that case I will send updates to the first entry or if I have done extensive research and work on the entry I may ask them to delete there entry and I will transfer my entry to them.

Kara:

Good catch! My mistake. She should be listed with a burial in Oak Hill, Marshall County. I fixed it. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Thank you for also posting the information on the other Sherows. Which ones did you modify exactly? I want to review the information closely.

Aaron
