Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, the Groton Avery Family, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! After posting a memorial, please take the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly..... it will go along way toward further establishing the credibility of this site.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave.

Dupl memorial - Ephraim Salisbury
Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the heads-up. The data retrieval function of this old brain doesn't work so good any more, & Find A Grave is of no help. I have deleted, I think, #142767391.

Annie E. Coburn Snow
Hi -

I'm Mike Carr. MC said you have contacted me regarding Annie. I don't recall us conversing but if you can tell me the source of the info on Annie Snow's F.A.G. Memorial, specifically the part where you indicate she is from "The Home of Friendless" then that would be great. It's very important to my family to be able to corroborate that data since we can find no document at this time that indicates such.

Thanks so much.

Annie Coburn Snow

I wanted to check and see if, by any chance, you had sent me the bio info that appears on Annie Coburn Snow's memorial (#115875163). (I know, I should have documented who gave me the info...) Anyway, another member had asked me about the source for some of it. I see your name pop up a lot in the Colrain, MA cemeteries and it looks like you've added some other Snows in the same cemetery that Annie is in, so I just thought I'd check.

Old South Burying Ground, Bolton
Hey Kevin, just thought I'd let you know that (I believe) Hasadiah Moore & Silas Coolidge, who have memorials in Old South were "plopped" there as there is no ref. in VR to the cemetery they are buried in and I made two very careful passes through the older section without finding either. I was able to decifer every standing headstone. I noticed you have photo requests for them both. Jim

Edwin Avery in Forest Cemetery
I looked for Edwin Avery family grave markers last weekend, and have only found their son, Thomas Avery's headstone; possibly daughter Mary (no last name on stone), but it is inconclusive as it is mostly illegible, but does bear a legible death date of 1855. I have sent a request (7-14-2015) to a local family historian who knows more about Forest Cemetery than Forest Cemetery does, asking if perhaps Edwin & Emily were re-interred in another portion of the cemetery, or perhaps to a different cemetery. Edwin was a Colonel, and his family appears to have high status in the community. I will let you know my findings as soon as I hear anything. S.J. Mohr

PS: Was Emily name actually Elizabeth?

Zechariah Felde (Field)
Hi Kevin - I think you have done an absolutely wonderful job on your biography of Zechariah!! Thank you for your reference to his father's memorial and linking via the biogrpahy. Absolutely fantastic compromise and idea! I am going to remember this should I run across this type of thing again.

Well Done!! Everyone smiles today!
