I am a fifth generation native to the Gunnison area and enjoy assisting folks with their genealogy searches. Our local museum has a great collection of old newspapers that I have access to and am willing to look up information if dates are provided.

# 93828780 Frank Glass
Hi, I wonder if you have any information about Frank who was born and raised in Gunnison. I was told that at the time of his death (age 21) he was married and had a child? I have never heard that before and wonder if you know someone who knew him personally. Cindy

Benson transfers
Thank you very much for the transfers of Fred & Mary Benson in the Gunnison Cemetery. I will now be able to edit and link some more of my wife's family.

RE: Klein
My great-uncle Eddie Hazard had the Flying M ranch on the Cochetopa so, yes, I'm part of that family. I remember the Kreuger place along the side of Hwy 114 along the creek down the canyon, I believe. I think my dad, George, knew your dad from what I remember!

Good to hear from you.

RE: Ralph Scruggs
Ralph and were friends and He had been in the Army
for two years. I joined the Navy and Ralph went back in the Army. These were Korean War days. Ralph was killed down at Fort Huachaca, Arizona. I was on
leave when his body was sent to Gunnison for bural and acted as a pall bearer. The Army honor guard
from Colorado Springs was there and I remember Ralph's mother jumping in the grave causing quite a stir.

Years later I tried to find Ralph's grave and couldn't find a military marker. I asked Mark Vader about it and he showed me where the grave was but no marker. When I returned to San Diego got some forms from the VFW and sent them in to thee VA and they said that there was no Army record of Ralph Scruggs. They needed a service number. I tried Miller's in Gunnison, no luck. I couldn't find any relatives of Ralph, so one night I had an idea and out of the blue I called the mortuary in Bisbee Arizona. This nice man looked in his book and he found a toe tag with the name Scruggs and a number. Pay dirt. Mark Vader helped me and I paid for the cement foundation and when Mark got the bronze marker he installed it.

You have a picture of it. I am sure Ralph has a
smile on his soul.

George Williams
Hi, Thanks for the picture from Gunnison Cemetery of the headstone of George Williams. I always want to kick myself for not making friends with Mr. Williams. I used to see him walking on Virginia St. in his black western hat and dark great coat. What stories were missed. He was in the 9th Caverly of the Army of the west during Indian war days. He was one of the buffalo soldiers. I went to Pine Street grade school in the 1930's and GCHS in 1946 and 47. During those years I had my chance and muffed it.

I knew Mark Vader quite well and when in Gunnison I always stopped to see him and my joke to him was to ask him to save me some room in his hotel.

Oh yes, when I was visiting my dad in Gunnison in
the winters of the fifties, I put my car in McDermotts for the nights to keep it from freezing.

Thanks again,
Sincerely,
Paul McDonough

RE: Flick
I thought John had a sister, but I couldn't remember. If you talk to her tell her I'd love to have her contact me. She may not remember me as a kid, but she might remember how sick I got after falling in that cold brook that went through her parents ranch.
