Genealogy is one of my passions. I have been helped by countless volunteers and am always looking for ways to repay that generosity. Findagrave (F.A.G.) is a perfect outlet for that. Thank you, to all my fellow F.A.G. contributors, for making this site what it is :) |
I live within walking distance from Bellerive Cemetery (fka Hiram Cemetery), so most of my memorials and photos are from there. None of my family are buried there, so if you are related to someone I made a memorial for, I am more than willing to transfer it to you, just ask. Although F.A.G. guidelines state that the transfer of a memorials is only required within 4 generations of direct descendants, I will transfer any memorial I have made to any interested relative, if the deceased is not my family.
Most of the grave markers in Bellerive are flat stones, so it's great exercise to look for someone's marker, which allows my genealogy obsession to have multiple benefits. I do avoid contact with the cemetery office as I know other F.A.G. volunteers have been charged $10 per look-up when asking for locations. I also try my best to respect the privacy of others I encounter there.
I want every memorial I have added to contain the most complete and accurate information available.
If there is not a death date apparent on a grave marker, and the individual would be younger than 110 years, I will NOT add a memorial for that person, unless I am able to locate an obituary or other documented proof that the person is deceased. Bellerive Cemetery does have a number of pre-need markers placed, and I strive to protect the privacy of anyone who has purchased a pre-need marker or placed their names on the markers of their loved ones. However, if I add a photo to their family member's memorial, I will not edit the photograph to remove their name or other information.
Have fun, and be safe out there!

Thank you Claire! Yes - I definitely would like Helen's memorial transferred. I will check to see what other family members are buried there and let you know. Thanks again!
|M Carter||RE: David Rood|
I do not have any information on where his burial plot is. My guess would be where the most recent burials have taken place as I do not believe he had the plot for a very long time, a couple of years at the longest and maybe as little as six months. I appreciate your effort in taking the photo as he was a longtime friend of mine.

|Peachy Pringle||RE: A G Williamson - Thank you!|
I'm sorry there wasn't more to be found. Evidently a good-while back, Mr. Williamson's tombstone broke and there was a sloppy attempt with an inappropriate adhesive to glue the stone back together without metal dowel pins. (This appears to have been done to several of the stones in the cemetery.) The adhesive didn't work permanently, and it messed up any engraving it ran down on. The white marks on the outer edges of the stone are possibly weed-whacker damage.
Well, we know he was a Mason.
Good luck in your research.

I checked the Arkona Cemetery Index and you are correct. They list RHODA BARTRAN, wife of DAVID BARTRAN, died December 28, 1858, 30 years, 9 months.
The grave location is MAP I, Range 12, Lot 5 as you described in your request for photo. I'll have a look for you the next time I visit Arkona Cemetery.
The cemetery map is really hard to read and I'd like to send it to you as an attachment so you can try and locate where you think this lot is.
|Ron Spurr||RE: Rhoda Cook Bartran|
I photographed the Bartram gravestone. Since I cannot contact you via an e-mail address, how can I send copies of the photographs to you?
You can contact me at email@example.com if you wish.
|Ron Spurr||Rhoda Cook Bartran|
In the memorial for Rhoda Bartran you reference her husband David BERTRAND, not Bartran. In looking through the Arkona Cemetery index and walking the cemetery grounds this morning, I discovered the last name BARTRAM, but no Rhonda and no BARTRAN. Should I be looking for BERTRAND instead.
I am confused. Could you please clarify this for me?
|Ron Spurr||RE: Mary J Fleming|
Here's what I found after further research. There are TWO Mary Flemings at Arkona. One is Mary Jane Fleming died May 11, 1859, Age 3 years and 2 months, The other is Mary J. Fleming and her birth and death dates are described as "(illegible"). I had the wrong Mary Jane Fleming. I had no way of knowing what the "J" stood for so incorrectly chose the obvious. Sorry. I should have looked farther. The cemetery index does not mention that the Mary J. Fleming was married or anything about her. My apologies for my confusion.
