Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Rhonda. I am a 62 year old mother of five and grandmother of five. I work in the airline industry and genealogy is my hobby. These are some of my family lines:

Causey, Cowart, Wells, Joiner, Humphries, Clary, Ring, Redman, Gentry, Groseclose, Ward, Kegans, Cannon, Combs, Nickell, Brady, Smallwood, Philpot, James, Freeman, Coleman, Smith, Buzan. I know there are many Freemans. My line can be proven to go back to William M. Freeman and wife Elizabeth Redman who were in the 1860 Fannin Co. Ga. census. I believe he was the son of Bailey M. Freeman, who died in 1852 in Carroll Co. GA.

To anyone who has transferred a memorial to me of my family, THANK YOU!! If I have any of your relatives besides Rev War soldiers, and you would like a transfer, please contact me via the "edit" button on the memorial, and leave your FAG number, it makes a transfer so much easier!!! Remember, you don't have to "own" a memorial to place info in the bio. I answer all edits in a day, 2 at the most. There is a lot of deleting of transfers going on, and even lifting photos without permission. This is not only against Findagrave rules, it is unethical. I don't mind transferring your relatives to you, but if I transfer them to you, and you delete them, I will contact admin, and they will transfer it back to me. If you would like to use any of my photos for your family genealogy, please ask. Please do not post bio info in the flower section. Just send it to me and I will post it. I will even give you credit, just let me know. The flower section is not for bio info, unless you cannot get hold of the creator!

Our early pioneers who were born in the 1700s and early 1800s deserve more than an empty bio, please try to put something about them on their memorials. Thanks!!

I have finally found the parents of Sarah Evaline Humphries. Many thanks to my distant cousin Sue, who is a descendant of Sarah's brother. My next genealogical dead end is Sarah/Sallie Nickell, and her husband, Samuel Combs. She was born ca 1830, possibly in VA. and was Cherokee. A Samuel Combs b 1807 married a Sarah/Sallie Nickell in Morgan Co KY, and they had at least 7 children. Samuel Combs married Sarah NICKELL perf by W W GRAY per the Marriage Records of Morgan County, Kentucky, 1821-1859. They are next found in Rowan Co KY (Used to be Morgan) in 1860. We can't find them in 1850:

HH 59
Samuel COMBS 53 farmer Ky
Sally 32 housewife
Minerva 16
Jeremiah 10
John 9
Samuel 7
Leonard 4
James E. 2

Later a daughter named Mary was born. She married a Richardson, and then Sally, son Samuel, James and Mary went west, traveling pretty much along the trail of tears, arriving in Oklahoma Territory. We don't know what happened to father Samuel.

Thanks to my sister, Kim, for all of the information that she has contributed to our family memorials.

If I have made any errors in transcribing or typing, please let me know! I love adding middle names and maiden names and relationship links, so don't hesitate to let me know of any that need to be filled in!

Thank you so much for posting the obit and taking the picture of Charles Allen Joiner's headstone. (Memorial #98776837) These are his parents' memorial numbers if you would like to link him to them. Mother, Marguerite Crow Joiner #21837113 Father, Paul J. Joiner #21837112. Marguerite was my maternal grandfather's sister - so, Charles and his siblings are 1st cousins to my mother.

Hi Rhonda,

I'm new to the site, so I don't know where to enter that information or I would be glad to try to do so. It's just double work transferring it to someone else. I went to the cemetery site, but didn't see a place to enter anything.

Thanks for transferring these memorials to me. Yes, we found out after we married that we were fifth cousins. I was rummaging through a box of pictures at his parent's house and found a picture of Jeanette and thought it was my grandmother. Jeanette and my grandmother looked so much alike they could have been twins. After doing some research, we discovered that our grandmothers were first cousins. Jeanette's mother, Epcilla Caroline Hendon McKinney, and my grandmother's father, John Thomas Hendon, were brothers and sisters. So, when I get angry with my husband, I say to him, "now, cousin!" It is an interesting, but could have been quite scary had we been more that fifth cousins.

Hi again Rhonda,

I am directly related to Chesley Harrison Ashlin. Also, his father and mother were Christopher Ashlin and Lucy Baker.

So here is the lineup:

Christopher Ashlin - G.G.G.Grandfather;
Chesley Harrison Ashlin - G.G.Grandfather;
Columbus Perry Ashlin - G.Grandfather;
William German Ashlin - Grandfather;
William Gilbert Ashlin - My Father;
Arthur William Ashlin - Me;
William Ernest Ashlin - My Oldest Son;
David Ryan Ashlin - My Youngest Son.

If Lucy Ann Ashlin is buried in the Ashlin-Wilkinson Cemetery, then it may not be marked. I have a hard time believing it wouldn't be because of all the other stones there. I have photos of all of them, I think.

You can see the grave site on Google Earth, but not enough detail to know it if you didn't already know. Here are the Google Earth coordinates for the Ashlin-Wilkinson Family Cemetery:

Lat: 36 degrees, 47' 36.86" N
Long: 81 degrees, 21' 56.11" W

You have to go to one of the nearby residences to go up the hill to get to it. We went to an abandoned place across the road from 960 County Rd. 630 (Cedar Springs Rd) Sugar Grove, VA. You go through the gate and back east up the hill to the top. Check it out on Google Earth and Google Maps street view.

I forgot to add that I am a 65 year old late bloomer with Find A Grave. I feel a desperation to get my genealogy recorded. I only realized the importance when my mother passed away in 2007, I have two daughters and a granddaughter and two grandsons, two age six, one four. I only hope that they will be able to recall my obsession and will appreciate all the research and hard work of people like you. I realize I can't control the future, but I can hope. If you have any Gunnin or Bennett information, would you please share? The Bennett's have not been recorded like the Gunnins. My great great grandmother is all I know of except for her mother's name being included in a Gunnin group photo. It is a shame, but I don' even have any dates to work with, no census records. Thank you for your contributions. I am located in middle Ga. My family migrated from Hall county around the 1930's. Good to correspond with you.

RE: Memorial #44899217
Rhonda,
I didn't think the item is an obituary. I'm not related to her, so it's not something I have an interest in having posted. I thought you might be interested in the item; new items hit the Internet all the time. I didn't know if you were related to her or not. Just a thought; if you have it, that's great.
