|I am a Roman Catholic priest currently serving as the pastor of the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville, Tennessee. I was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, attended Notre Dame High School there, graduated from St. Meinrad Seminary College in St. Meinrad, IN, in 1977. I started graduate studies in Rome, Italy at the Gregorianum University and completed studies at the Catholic University of America. I received my Doctor of Ministry in Homiletics for the Aquinas Insititute of Theology on the Campus of St. Louis University in 2011. I have been "digging up relatives" since 1973.|

His name is James Walsh, and according to the book, Tennessee Tombstone Inscriptions and Manuscripts, he died July 24,1871, age 60. I'm trying to figure out if this might be my Great great GF. I have not found a death certificate, nor does his name appear in the database of burials on the Calvary website. A few years ago I asked at the office at Calvary. the couldn't find anything but suggested I walk the old area behind the office. I've done that several times but I haven't found him. The Tennessee Tombstone book, which I have, says that the Calvary Records were "compiled" by Elizabeth C. Breen in 1933 (which is ironic in and of itself and is another question I have - are those Breens related to mine? I feel Frs. Phillip and Joe Pat could answer that one). But compiled from what? What was she looking at that said James Walsh age 61 died (or was buried) on July 24, 1871? I don't know, but that's essentially what I'm trying to find. Are there any church records that show burials from that time period? Or any other records you know of? I've even checked the obits in the newspaper around that time. Are there any church records that show parishioners at that time? His age and death fits my theory of how the Walshes and Breens came to know each other. Any kind of corroborating information at all may help me.

Thanks so much for responding! I talked to Fr. Phillip a few years ago after my mother died and ever since have intended to meet him in Nashville to talk family history. He and Fr. Joe Pat were first cousins to my mother, but I've never spent any time with them, and I would like to. Just One of those trips I haven't quite done yet. I may take you up on your offer to help and call you. There's one person I'm investigating that was buried in Calvary in 1871 according to a couple of sources. I've walked the area where he might be and cannot find it, and I'm wondering if there are any church records that might corroborate the information. Anyway, thanks again for responding and Merry Christmas. I look forward to talking to you sometime soon.

Today was a very special event! "Shirt-tail relatives" and I got together and it was genealogy.....more genealogy....more genealogy, etc. My brain is overworked but it was wonderful!
I had communicated with these people via e-mail and snail mail but this was face to face and SO GOOD. Saturday is the Dunn County Genealogical Society meeting and more genealogy with other friends. Sunday is a party with more shirt-tail relatives!
This truly is my kind of holiday time!
