Well I haven't been doing this very long, but I became interested in genealogy after hearing family stories and gossip, mostly from my grandparents. I worked with my paternal grandparents the longest out of all the grandkids, so I heard a *lot* of stories. They passed away within 20 days of each other in 01/2005.
I've made trips to the valley to visit the cemetery their ashes are buried at, and also to Karnes City TX to look for my maternal grandmothers family (no luck there). I made the first trip out there only to be told the woman who would have known where to look had passed away only a few years earlier, and that they hadn't started taking records until after she passed away.
I hate long road trips, and don't wish one through TX emptiness on anyone (hey it takes nearly all day to get from one end of the state to the other) so I love the idea of a site where people can request a photo from a local.
If anyone wants a photo, info from the Corpus Christi TX library or to correct anything I posted, feel free to email me! | |

Lieut. James Wells Welch. U.S. Air Service records will regret the death, in an airplane accident, of 1st Lieut. James Wells Welch at Chanute Field, Illinois, on April 17, 1920. Lieut. Welch recently became a member of the Army and Navy Air Service Association. He enlisted in the military service of the United States on October 8, 1917, and served at the School of Military Aeronautics, Austin, Tex., until December 1, 1917, when he was transferred to Kelly Field for flying training. He was commissioned a 2d Lieutenant A.S., S.R.C., on January 29, 1918, and was transferred to Wilbur Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, March 20, 1918, where he served as Flying Instructor until August 20, 1918, when he was transferred to Chanute Field for duty as a Stage Commander. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant A.S.A., September 2, 1918, and appointed officer in Charge of Flying at Chanute Field in December of that year, continuing in that duty until his death, having acted, in addition to his regular duties, as Engineer Officer, Post Exchange Officer and Transportation Officer. | re: victims of the 1919 hurricane Hi, Lora, In order to fully research the death of Mary [Sparks] Hargrove [and other family members] I ordered the book "1919 ~ The Storm. A Narrative and Photographic History." This book includes is a list of 272 identified dead. It's very hard to read when you see the names of entire families that were drowned in the catastrophe. Thanks for writing. Mary | | | Vicky Taggart
 | C. W. Snyder Thank you for responding. I found the death certificate for Rev. G. W. Snyder where it is indicated he is buried in Aberdeen Cemetery. This cemetery is in the old part of Seaside. So, your headstone could be right for someone else. I added my great grandfather under the Aberdeen Cemetery. There is no need to transfer anything. Again, thank you. You are doing a great service for families. Vicky | | | Steven D. Fairweather
 | Porter Pixley Hello Lois, Thank you very much for transferring Porter's. Have a great day.

 | C. W. Snyder I believe this is my family member. His name is George W. Snyder. Could the "C" be a mistake? Just asking. I know headstones this old can be hard to read.
Thanking you in advance. Vicky | | | Mary V. [Johnson] Edgar
