Bio Photo We Are The Chosen

We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find
the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to
tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.

Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing
life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe.
All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those
who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story!" So, we do. In
finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before
now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the
ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times
have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me?
I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I
and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be
lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying, "I can't let this
happen." The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to
doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able
to accomplish, how they contributed to what we are today. It goes to
respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up,
their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep
pride that the fathers fought and some died to make and keep us a Nation.
It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us.
It is of equal pride and love that our mothers struggled to give us at

RE: Hackathorn
Thanks for the info. Looks like Charley is buried near Henry & Ruth so I do think this Charley is their son Charles. Will submit an edit request to link them.
Thanks, Judi

Daniel Litman
Hello Cousin
I am so excited to find this site. I am descended from the Weinekes. Edward and Elizabeth Weineke's daughter Christine married Robert D. Litman. They had four children (Clarence, Alma, Robert and Paul). Clarence married Florence Gibbons. They had three children (Melvin, Erman and Delora). Delora is my grandmother.

I was astounded to find the picture of Robert and Chrstine with their three children (I believe Gary Adams may have shared this with you). I have memories of Clarence as an older man when I was a boy. It was great seeing a picture of him as a youngster and seeing what his parents looked like.

I must confess I do not know any of the family on the Weineke side or the family history. As I stated above I am excited to find this information and would love to learn more.

Hackathorn's at Riverview
Hi Deborah,
You seem to have taken a number of photos of markers around East Liverpool, so I'm hoping you live in the area and might remember the markers I'm interested in.

You took the photos of Henry, Ruth Ann, and Charley Hackathorn's markers at Riverview Cemetery. Do you know whether Charley is buried with/near Henry and Ruth? Ruth and Henry had a son, Charles, born in 1978 but I don't know when he died. I can't find any records of him after 1900. The memorial for Charley mentions he died at the home of his mother in 1898 but doesn't mention his dad. Henry Hackathorn died in 1895. I would like to link the memorial for Charley to Henry and Ruth but don't know whether this Charley is their son or not. If he's buried near them, I would be more inclined to think he was their son.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give me with this family!

Dear Deborah,
What you wrote on your findagrave page brought tears to my eyes. You put into words what's in my heart when it comes to my ancestors. There are some things that I'm not proud of at all, but I feel such joy when I find how faithfully some of them served the LORD and I know I will see them again. Thank you for making my week! I sure did need it.
