I'm a 30-year-old archaeologist. I've been researching my family history for years, probably since middle school, but a lot of my family lived in the Midwest, so I've never been able to visit their graves.
I've been working on photographing and entering all the headstones from Weston Cemetery in Weston, Oregon. Even for a small cemetery, it's quite the process.
Please use the edit tab to submit corrections regarding any of my entries.
Please note that I am not an employee of any cemetery. I am a volunteer attempting to photo document an entire cemetery. Maintenance of headstones beyond the clearing away of grass and debris is beyond the scope of my efforts. If you have a problem with cemetery maintenance, please contact the cemetery sexton.
As per the Find A Grave FAQ, "Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations, this would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Keep in mind that the original contributor may also be related to the memorial and may not want to make the transfer. You may certainly request the transfer of memorials beyond the four generations, but the original contributor may choose not to transfer (the original contributor should make any corrections and add any additional information you have for that memorial, such as links to parents and spouses). Bulk surname requests should not be made."
William Brown Would you please remove the George from the citation for William Brown 1819-1902 Weston, Oregon cemetery? The inscription on the stone is simply William Brown, he did not have a middle name. I have many documents including his family bible and never have I found the George except on ancestry family trees. that was a mistake made by a submitter many years ago and keeps getting circulated. It would be helpful to future researchers. Thank you from a grateful great great granddaughter
Mary Daniel Hicks #52044499 Amy, I have some additional information for Mary Daniel Hicks. It has taken me some time to get her straightened out from another Mary Daniel, who was also in Illinois at the same time and of a similar age.
Mary Z. Daniel Bradley Hicks is the daughter of Jacob Pryor Daniel and Emeline Scott Grant and was born in Jefferson County, IL. She md. (1) Jason Emory Bradley on 15 July 1854 and md. (2) James Monroe Hicks before 1880 as she appears on the census with him, but is a widow by the 1900 census. Both Mary's are on the 1850 census in Jefferson County, IL, but it took checking the parents' birthplaces to be sure that this was correct information and the right Mary was with this memorial. She died 12 Feb 1905 in Weston, Umatilla, OR and is buried in the cemetery there.
Thanks for being a cemetery hopper and taking pictures. You make researchers, like me, very happy, who are unable to get to cemeteries which are not in our immediate area.
Would it be possible for you to change my grandmother's listing? Her name was Minnie Myrtle Brown Campbell, not Minnie Myrtle Campbell Brown. when I had the tombstone made the company representative recommended that it be inscribed as is since we do not have exact location of family members in the lot.
Thank you very much, I know it is a bit confusing to an observer.
Charles & Bell Roley Hi Amy - I see that you added a picture of Charles and Belle Roley to their Findagrave page. Are you related to them? Belle was my father's cousin. Just wondering which family line you are researching.
