Bio and Links
Bio Photo My home is circa 1784. Its situation is such that it fell in the line of battle during the conflict between the States. When my father died, I was too early at the cemetery for the appointment concerning the necessary arrangements. To pass the time I paid a visit to the antique shop close by. Displayed there was a book which possessed a title that gave me the idea that my home may be mentioned within. Upon opening it, the pages fell directly to a description and photograph of my old place. It was not intended for the purpose, but the volume became a much worn field guide as I sought to visit and photograph other antebellum homes in the vicinity. I pursued that objective with interest and vigor. This caused me to notice the old churches en route and I began to photograph them. Behind the churches were cemeteries. Cemeteries that I found to be serene and sublime, full of lore. In turn they led me here and I stayed.

RE: Mary Bowles Yates
Dear George Seitz,

You are a true friend!

Thank you is one, two, and sometimes three words.

Keep up the wonderful work you have done, are doing, and shall do too. It is well !

On "Erin Hill" in Downtown Powhatan, Virginia

Yes my Great Uncle and mentor, Honorable E. Floyd Yates , Senior and his wife Mary Bowles were the owners and cared for Erin Hill near his Yates Motors New Ford Agency location. We spent many nighjts in in it. Do you ever see Maxie up near the County Courthouse at Maxies?

He built, down the road, Erin Oaks too , which I was just talking about at Thanksgiving feast with my mom, wife, and friends we had cooked for on Thursday. Yes that holiday President Abraham Lincoln, a Republican declared.

We as well inasmuch as celebrate the holiday General George Washington declared, " for all eternity " of Evacuation Day which always is on the 25th day of November.

On Erin Hill where my one Aunt Fran and Uncle Jack Mc Conogahy held the wedding ..when you took the picture, it was in 2014.. was it still a B&B? I thought it had been SOLD and now going to be a group of Condo's?

May you and your families have a blessed and Merry Christmas. GOD Bless you!

Jonathan Robert De Mallie

Mrs. Mary Bowles Yates
Seasons Greetings Mr. De Mallie;

I hope you are in accordance with me adding a photograph of Erin Hill to Mrs. Yates entry. I took the opportunity to photograph it in 2014, and since you mentioned it with such regard I thought it appropriate. Of course the order can be altered.

Best Wishes,

George Seitz

McDonogh Institute
Thank you for adding the great photos from the McDonogh Institute. I really appreciate your doing so! I didn't know that his children were buried there with him and have added memorials for them if you would add your wonderful picture of the grave that would be so much appreciated as well - Thomas Find A Grave Memorial# 154608634 and Lucy Find A Grave Memorial# 154608606. Thank you also for the great portraits of him. I will now try to find the rest of his family and link him up. Thanks for all you do on the history side!
