Sept. 2013 - I AM BACK FROM CHINA AND WORKING FRANTICLY TO GET POSTED THE PROJECT I WAS THERE FOR. HERE ARE SOME OF THE INTERESTING THINGS I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON. BE SURE TO READ THE CEMETERY DESCRIPTIONS FOR THE STORY. Newer work added on top of list:|
China Ashes is my list of people who died in China and the disposition of their ashes was lost. It is especially interesting considering how many of these individuals I could find photos for.
Royal Naval Cemetery - Liu-kung-tao
Holy Trinity Cathedral and the story of the ashes there (or are they?)
Taiyuan Massacre Graves
The Rebellion Cemetery of 1900
Yangpu Public Park
Weihsien Civilian Assembly Center

MY NEWEST RANT:
If you don't have a last name,
And you don't have a death date,
AND you don't have a burial location of any kind,
You Didn't FIND A GRAVE!
Every time you add a name that is not tied to the actual location of a burial site, you increase the inaccuracy of our website; and there is a vast difference between a grave being lost, and you just not knowing where it is. Please use our site for it's intended purpose, and not a substitute for a pay family tree website. If you are doing it to get your claim in first to a name, then shame on you!
It's about the grave; it's not about you.

Jan. 2013 - I have started to get feedback from Australia, which is WONDERFUL, although I am not getting contact information. If you are family and can tell me full names of parents/spouse/children, I would be most grateful. ALSO, SEND ME AN EMAIL ADDRESS! I only receive what you type. Cheers!
My new favorite title is
I would respectfully ask that you not put moving "flowers" on my memorials. I think you would agree that your gesture is about respect for the dead, and not a competition of who can find the most distracting jpeg.
I take much more pride in having complete information. I love connecting all the relationships and seeing the children's links all in place. For that reason, much of my work and contribution is on the memorials of others.
NOV 2011: My new passion is Japanese and Chinese foreign cemeteries. We just got back from Japan, where I photographed my first "Famous Interment". My husband travels to Shanghai 4-5 times a year, and I've gotten engrossed in the loss of Jewish graves there.

ARE YOU GUILTY OF DOUBLE POSTING PHOTOS?
Just because yours is prettier doesn't mean it isn't rude to post the same exact shot on top of the original photographer, especially when it was their memorial to begin with. (And its not like there aren't enough uncaptured graves out there!) Now, if you cut away the weeds and washed off the bird poop, that's a different story . . . Back up and take a landscape view, or shoot a close shot of an otherwise illegible engraving.
DID YOU KNOW?
- The Social Security death location is NOT accurate. It is the address they mailed the last check. Always use the State Death Index location.
- When you can't find death records, try googling the name. Old genealogy files from the 1990s are still out there, even though the link address from the source is broken.
- WHY LIST THE CHILDREN IN THE BIO? OR THE PARENTS FOR THAT MATTER? Because someone has done a lot of work to get the full name of the parents which may or may not be accurate on the parents link. Because someone has done alot of work to verify who is and isn't a child and if you do not include the list, a year from now someone may wrongly link a child that is not theirs. The manager of the child's memorial may decide to only document the name on the marker, and you have lost the opportunity to communicate the full name of each child. It also looks much better to paragraph the children, since they will be in a column when they are linked. And, double spacing between the parent info / marriage info / and children makes it much easier to scan the bio.
-Still typing the entire death certificate or an entire census on someone's memorial? REALLY? Those things are much more accessable to the amateur genealogist these days and are more trash than help on a memorial.
-Recently I have been including a list of my sources to be placed under the ADD NOTE tab. PLEASE do not post my name and number; my ego just doesn't need that and your bio will just look sloppy. My greatest reward is a beautifully formatted memorial. THANKS, YALL!

The Erastus Carl Swinney and Mary Elizabeth Reynolds you have posted in the Reynolds Cemetery, Cherokee County, Texas were married 15 Dec 1901 in Cherokee County, Texas.

I was just checking thru the Find A Grave site and saw a photo you posted of Levicey Ewing and Hershel Ewing--they would be my great-grandmother and my paternal grandfather. I would love to get any family photos you might have--I have almost nothing. Is there a way I can access photos you have posted? This is wonderful and many thanks.
|Carol Hull||Joseph F. Hull|
Thank you for entering information for the burial site of the above. I note that on the 'Report of the Death of an American Citizen', Joseph Hull died in the year 1922, not 1912. Although the family knew that he died of smallpox, we did not know where he was buried. Is there a photo?
Thank you for your information.
Betty Voorhis McGlashan, if you are related I will be glad to transfer the memorial, it not I will take care of the changes.

The memorial you posted in the Mexican cemetery is a duplicate of one I posted in 2008 for "Mary Hernandez".
Check her death certificate.
