Certificate posted
Also wanted to let you know I added to the site a photo of the certificate issued to the Chaplain family as official notification of Louis' death in WWI.

This certificate hung ever since I can remember in the Chaplain family home on St. Ferdinand Street in New Orleans - my father & his brother grew up in this house. I can recall various members of the Chaplain family living in and visiting this house over the years; Louis's older sister Catherine ("Auntie") lived there from the time the Chaplains moved into the city from La Chincha, LA (St. Bernard Parish) until her death in 1994; His younger brother Joseph ("Uncle Joe")lived there most of his life as well. I can recall other brothers Freddie, Bill and Albert passing through this house over the years.

It was a bustling, busy authentic New Orleans style shotgun-double home. Many good memories there.

RE: Louis Henri Chaplain
Thank you so much for the notification and for posting the picture - it is fantastic! Thanks to your mom as well for preserving it! She is absolutely correct; the Chaplain ears are truly unmistakable.

There is at least one other picture of Louis that I recall hung in the Chaplain family home in New Orleans when I was a kid. One of my cousins in Baton Rouge has it as well as several other historically significant Chaplain family photos. As soon as I am able to convince her to allow them to be digitally photographed, I will let you know and will certainly post them.

Thanks so much!

RE: Thanks so much!
De nada, Also for Agathe Delacour Chaplain / Catherine Weinzettel Chaplain. I live a block away I've walked St. Vincent's Du Paul #1 and #2 for years. I knew exactly where they were.

Jacobi Family at Mt. Holly
I've just added Susanna "Susie" Jacobi Fisher to Mt. Holly. The lighting was not the best that day; if you'd like I'll try for a better shot the next time I'm there.

Chaplain Family
I am related to the Chaplains through my paternal grandmother - Camille Marceline Chaplain Flauss. Her father was Peter Frank Chaplain, brother of John M. and Louis H. Chaplain.

Thanks for all the information you've posted here - you've filled in quite a few blanks that I had!

"Jake" Jacobi
I've uploaded the picture...don't know quite how I had missed it earlier. Lots of cleanup going on after the snow storm.

RE: Thanks!
Lucy was the step-dtr of my ancestor- I have the Collinsworth family, and Abba, after her husband's death, married Lucy's Father ad had two more- 10 or so years later. Many years ago, before home computers, I had a correspondant on this line who helped me (and you).

RE: Jacob T. Jacobi
Well, since then we've had a snow storm at Christmas (very wet, very heavy snow)....many, many branches are down. There has been a truck there that cleaned up part of it but still plenty left.

RE: Jacob T. Jacobi
I'd say the obit should be reliable (unless your flu theory might hold true). I'll double check the cemetery when weather gets warmer but it may very well be unmarked. From 'old timers' I've learned that for many years the cemetery suffered neglect so either the grave could never have been marked or the stone was damaged or destroyed. I doubt that the funeral home would still have records but it wouldn't hurt to ask (501.661.9111, now Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth).
