I started doing genealogy in 1996, when my husband's family passed around old photos and other information at a family reunion. I have been hooked every since!|
I am not sure how I stumbled onto the Findagrave site, but when I saw what they were doing, I decided to start putting on-line the information that I have. Then I realized the potential of this site, by housing grave stones before cemeteries could be destroyed by moving or vandals, I started driving to area cemeteries and copying headstone information.
Instead of creating memorial pages, I am concentrating on getting the "132 Million" memorials linked together. Don't get me wrong, I still make memorial pages as well as photograph cemeteries, however, my main interest right now is getting families linked together.
Please do not duplicate memorials! It makes it difficult to link families together and/or complete cemeteries when there are duplications. First do a search of the whole website AND then if you know the cemetery, search the cemetery as well...Thank you for your consideration.
Please make note: It is NOT a "numbers" game to me, I do this to honor the deceased! I spend upwards of 10+ hours a day on the computer working on findagrave.com. It does not matter who has the memorial page, if I can add information, I send it to the creator, if it is a relative and I have a photo, I add it to the memorial page...what is important here is NOT that I have maintenance of a relative's memorial page, it is that someone cared enough to go out and photograph that memorial so that I and future generations can see the headstone!
Not to upset or belittle anyone, but I WILL ONLY MAKE PERMANENT TRANSFERS WITHIN THE GUIDELINES OF FINDAGRAVE.COM that being 4 GENERATIONS: Spouses, Parents, Brothers and Sisters, Children, Grand-children, Grandparents, and Great-grandparents. Please use the "EDIT" tab to ask for EACH transfer. PLEASE STATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DECEASED and your member id#, without these, your request will be deleted.
For EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS or all other requests, I will gladly make additions, corrections or links. PLEASE USE the "EDIT" TAB on the upper right-hand corner of the memorial to send the information. This sends me a direct link to the memorial page required to make the changes. I delete all requests left on my "bio" page or sent to me in a e-mail. Don't forget to send the memorial numbers for links.
If you are seeking transfer to "have all my family together" ~ use the virtual cemetery button. Then all of the memorials will be in the same "cemetery", and you can look at them daily.
Please DO NOT leave biographical information and obituaries in a virtual flower. This is against findagrave.com policy...and the flower will be reported as "abused". As stated, I do make corrections when asked, as well as as try to give credit where credit is due.
Thanks to all of you who have sent additional information for the memorials.
I have also joined Find a Grave Volunteers of Indiana.

Thank you so much for sending the obituary for Pearl B. (Phillips) McMurry memorial in Solsberry Cemetery. Pearl was the 2nd wife of my Uncle George McMurry. I knew very little about Pearl but attempted the Memorial for her anyway. I do so appreciate having it more complete now that you so graciously shared her obituary. I have also linked her mother, father, and those siblings who have passed.

Thank you for your time. As I am certain you are already aware, the Gebhart's were a huge family in that area. My grandmother was Florence Gebhart Rich. I will send corrections as I come across the information. Thank you...

I'm going to her husband's funeral Friday and will talk to their family members to see if they want ownership. I'll let you know.
I will also try to get a copy of Janet's obituary from the local library, I can't seem to find it online. Do you have a resource to go to for her obit ?
|Mary(Coggin)Russell||RE: Re: Obituaries|
I always ask before I post. Thanks! Also forgive I ask you more than once as I ask so many times LOL
Do you add obituaries to memorials and if so, what do you require so that we can do this?

Thank you for all your hard work in Plainfield Cemetery. I really appreciate all the many, many hours you spent creating the memorials and doing the research to link so many people together.
When I started photographing the entire cemetery in May 2015, there were more than 1900 memorials without a photo. Now there are less than 50 (none with row/plot information).
If you have time to check your records to see if you have row/plot information for any of the remaining memorials without photographs, I would be happy to go back to that area to make a final search for a marker or take a photo of the plot.
Thanks again for all of your help! Your work is greatly appreciated.

Hi! Thanks for creating his memorial for us to find. I took a magnifing glass & tried reading the epithaph at the bottom. If you can would you please tell me what is in the first line & the last word on the 3rd line. Also his middle initial is an "A". It looks like an "A" to me on the marker also. I am a very distant connection to the Youngs. Walter's parents are Step-Great-Grandparents to one of my first Cousins' I'm helping her research her family. Thank you for your time & helping us out here. It is most appreciated. Have a safe & enjoyable weekend. Take care & God bless.
